The Tenth House

The tenth house, karma, means destiny—the work we do, and our relation to the world at large. Karma relates to the actions we take that have the most impact on the world around us for good or bad. The energy of the tenth house exemplifies the cause and effect principle: whatever we do comes back to us tenfold. It is associated with the midheaven, where the Sun is at its zenith at midday. The light of the Sun at this time casts no shadow. It is the least personal house of the zodiac as we devote ourselves to the service of humanity. It also relates to fame, honor, and recognition bestowed upon us by the government, as a result of the work we do. It reflects our status, reputation, and acquired titles. The energy of the tenth house can result in positive accolades—for example, Paul McCartney was knighted ‘Sir Paul McCartney’ by Queen Elizabeth for lifelong distinction in music. The energy of the tenth house can result in negative recognition—for example, Timothy McVeigh was known as the ‘Oklahoma Bomber’ for his destruction of a major building in downtown Oklahoma city.
