Significant Lunar Effects this Month - August 2012
As we mentioned in last month’s column, of all the celestial bodies, Jyotish places most emphasis on the Moon, as it takes 28 days (more precisely 27 days, 7 hours 43 minutes) to revolve around the Earth, consequently making us more susceptible to its influence. The Moon, in its orbit around the Earth each month, passes through each of the 12 signs of the zodiac affecting specific areas of our life. The Moon stays in one sign a bit more than two days.

The Moon relates to our innermost feelings and perceptions. In some signs, it motivates us to be more outgoing while in others it necessitates us to be more reflective. This article will introduce a sampling of the diverse influences one can expect as the Moon passes through each sign during the month.
August 13 to 15 — Moon in Gemini
The Moon is now in Gemini; it is a time to focus on which of your ideas are doable and to then coordinate your efforts to accomplish them. This Moon placement can make you feel somewhat agitated, as it is now being aspected by Pluto, the planet that provokes profound yet often arduous change and transformation – though ultimately for our personal development. So take your time, plan carefully and stay calm so as not to waste valuable energy.
August 15 to 17 — Moon in Cancer
The Moon is now in Cancer, a sign that indicates a nurturing, gentle, and creative energy. As Mercury and Rahu are aspecting this lunar placement, we need to guard against double thinking what our instincts and intuition are telling us. Perhaps we may be challenged to stay on track with our plans, as Rahu can test our resolve, maneuvering us into situations whereby we may need to backpedal to get back on course. This, however, is not to pull the carpet out from under us, but rather to force us into being certain as to where we really want to go.
Moreover, try not to get edgy as a result of the high-strung, electric energy of Mercury that is also aspecting the Moon at this time.
August 17 to 19 — Moon in Leo
The Moon has landed once again in spontaneous Leo, a dynamic outgoing sign that activates all the positive and creative attributes of the Moon. You may, however, misinterpret your feelings at this time or you may feel a bit emotionally vulnerable as Neptune, aspecting the Moon, can skew your objectivity and cloud your emotions. Try and observe your feelings, yet don’t react to them. The upside of this aspect is that Neptune can instill new imaginative ideas, enabling us to look at them from different angles.
August 19 to 21 — Moon in Virgo
The analytical mind of the Moon, now in Virgo, is awakened. As Uranus and Ketu are aspecting the Moon, we may feel somewhat excited, yet also with a sense of anticipation that can keep us imbalanced. We can feel as if we were standing only on one foot. We can, however, use the adrenaline-like buzz from these two planets to get things moving successfully, especially aided through the detail orientation of this Moon and guided by the purposeful energy of aspecting Jupiter.
August 21 to 23 — Moon in Libra
All things are beautiful with the Moon in Libra. We need, however, to forge ahead with our plans, and not to get waylaid by our at times unpredictable emotional nature. Saturn and Mars – two malefics – are now aspecting the Moon during this short transit. Saturn’s nature is to instill strategies for success, yet in the planning process, it often delays our progress. Mars, on the other hand, forcefully spurs us on to act. Both, then, can ruin the “moment” as the Venusian Moon in Libra seeks harmony in “just being”. Consequently, it is time to roll up our sleeves, appreciate and accept the disciplining nature of Saturn and the driving force of Mars, even though at first they may appear to be disturbing our comfort.
August 23 to 25 — Moon in Scorpio
Intensity, caution, and misgiving may be the motif over the next few days as the Moon, now in Scorpio, continues to be aspected by both Rahu and Ketu, a difficult aspect that has been going on for the last many months. This is not the most favorable time, then, to make important decisions. However, if you keep your heart and mind open to others and their advice, circumstances can work out for the best. Moreover, Jupiter is aspecting the Moon, casting its protective net, helping to guide events in the best way possible. Stay calm and don’t let any details “fall through the cracks”.
August 25 to 28 — Moon in Sagittarius
The Moon in Sagittarius offers a pleasant flow in our emotional expression, enabling us to more easily get our ideas across to others. We may feel more open, adaptable, and have the desire to investigate areas of interest that we may have been putting off. Keep in mind, however, that with volatile Pluto conjunct this fiery Moon, we need to remain peaceful in all our undertakings. Moreover, stay focused, remembering to put business before pleasure as Venus is also aspecting the Moon. Saturn in its best placement in Libra, although having a tendency to curtail the explorative nature of this Moon, will add structure and the “voice of reason”. So listen to it.
August 28 to 30 — Moon in Capricorn
We may experience a shift from the “let’s go for it” attitude of the Moon in Sagittarius to a more reflective “think before you leap” one of this Moon now in Capricorn. The energy of Mars and Ketu (Ketu behaves like Mars) can be somewhat in contrast to the more slower moving Capricornian Moon. However, with Jupiter leading the way, we can move forward with greater confidence, even though we may feel uncomfortably pushed into action. It’s a great time to discover a balance between conservative, cautious thinking and spontaneous, impetuous behavior.
August 30 to September 1 — Moon in Aquarius
Although we can be fixed in our ideas and in our emotions, they are based on far-reaching visionary concepts, a trademark of the Moon in Aquarius. During this short transit, as Neptune is aspecting the Moon and, in addition, the Sun is in opposition to it (resulting in a full moon), we may have a sense of awe or wonder regarding the unlimited possibilities that lie ahead. It is, then, a good time for some inner reflection and contemplation. Use your imagination, but keep it real. Workable concepts that you come up with at this time can be of real value in the future.
September 1 to 3 — Moon in Pisces
The Moon is now in the gentle, compassionate sign Pisces. As this is a mutable sign – we don’t always stick with what we have started – we need to stay on track, especially as Uranus is aspecting the Moon during this transit. As always, Uranus suggests that we should “expect the unexpected”. This can be good, as we may be shaken out of any overly structured or stagnant ways of feeling or thinking. And though it can be somewhat upsetting to have our lifestyle disturbed, fresh new and invigorating ideas will more than make up for any disruptions in our accustomed way of doing things.
September 3 to 6 — Moon in Aries
The Moon has moved onto the racetrack, as it is now in Aries ruled by high octane Mars. We want to go fast without anything getting in our way, an attitude that may be heightened at this time as Mars itself is aspecting the Moon. Saturn is also in this transit combination instilling the wisdom to move forward intelligently. However, as both Mars and Saturn are to a great extent in conflict with the nature of the Moon – one creates agitation, the other frustration – we need to stay calm and to see how to best use the positive attributes of these 2 planets. Try to temper any impetuousness that you may feel at this time, recognizing the need for a calmly active mindset that will only help you to be more successful in the long run.
September 6 to 8 — Moon in Taurus
Once again the Moon is in Taurus, its most favorable placement. Our emotional expression, creativity, and thinking can be heightened at this time. Consequently, as with all Moon in Taurus transits, now would be a good time to start a project. Moreover, items purchased now are more likely to serve you well into the future.
Be careful, however, as Rahu, Ketu, and Mars are all aspecting the Moon. Consequently, before you act, determine first that whatever you are contemplating to start or buy is necessary and not based on impulsive or emotional decisions.
September 8 to 11 — Moon in Gemini
The Moon is now in the versatile and creative sign, Gemini. During this transit, the only planet aspecting the Moon is Pluto, an unstoppable force bringing about change and personal transformation. That being said, it is best to go with the flow of Plutonian energy rather than resist it. As such, its aspect to the Moon suggests that we openly express ourselves in as calm a way as we can, as to do otherwise, for example to repress our emotions at this time, we could be asking for trouble. We may have many ideas with the Moon in Gemini, however, with the powerful force of Pluto aspecting it, we just need to choose one and go for the ride regardless that we may feel on an emotional roller coaster.
In summary, by being aware of the Moon’s transits throughout the month, you can familiarize yourself with your innermost feelings and responses. If you would like to learn more about the effects of the Moon in the houses of your astrological chart, I would be more than happy to share my insights with you.
Moreover, as astrology is defined as “Man’s response to planetary influences”, we, being a spark of the Infinite, have the free will to overcome or at least minimize many of their “negative” influences. Consequently, through an analysis of your astrological chart, preventive measures can be suggested to help you achieve this end.
Next month, we will look at the effects of the Moon’s position from September 11th to October 8th.

Significant Lunar Effects this Month - July 2012

July 11 to 13 — Moon in Aries
The Moon is back in the sign Aries prompting us to use our minds energetically to achieve our goals. Striking a balance between thought and action during this short transit will prove to be beneficial, as we may be somewhat impulsive, wanting to materialize our plans now.
Two planets are aspecting the Moon while it is in Aries. Saturn, in its best placement in Libra, evokes mindfulness, and though this is clearly a positive frame of mind to be in, Saturn’s aspect to Moon is mostly challenging as the energy between both is usually conflicting. This friction can be intensified, as Saturn wants to move slowly and carefully, and at times delays movement forward; whereas this particular Moon in Aries, which is ruled by Mars, intensifies your mental disposition to act fast. In addition, Mars itself is aspecting the Moon; we doubly want to move impetuously. At this time then, there can be some confusion as a result of these two opposing energies, so think before you act – preferably staying away from sharp instruments, power tools or risky activities if you are not familiar with them.
July 13 to 16 — Moon in Taurus
This is the best placement for the Moon in Taurus. It indicates emotional stability, creativity, and great mental conceptualization. Venus in Taurus, a great placement for this planet, is aspecting the Moon. Once again, however, as in the previous Moon in Aries, a positive planetary position can be preferable when it is functioning on its own and not interfering with another planet – in this case the Moon. The admixture here promotes a fun-loving, entertainment desire that can detour the more practically oriented nature of this Moon. In addition, Ketu’s eclipsing effect can skew our perception regarding the direction we may have been taking. For example, with this combined influence, we may find ourselves shuffling off to a party that we never intended to go to. Fortunately, Jupiter is chaperoning the situation, injecting some common sense, prompting us to be careful regardless what we do. In its guiding efforts, we may simply stay on track with our original creative plans.
July 16 to 18 — Moon in Gemini
Mercury, the ruling planet of Gemini, is mentally stimulating. As a result, the Moon in Gemini has an effervescent, up-tempo, and creative mindset; the mind is geared towards implementing new, inventive ideas. Although we can be enthralled and enthusiastic about some new concept, we need to keep our feet on the ground – Gemini being an air sign – and focus on our ideas that are doable, and preferably one at a time. During this short transit, there are no aspects, positive or difficult, that can take us on a mental detour. Your plans, then, have a greater chance for success. Just stay focused and enjoy the process.
July 18 to 21 — Moon in Cancer
The Moon in Cancer is the next best placement for the Moon after Taurus. In one respect, however, the Moon in Cancer may provide an easier time on an emotional, intellectual level than that of the Taurus Moon these last many months, as it is not being as directly affected – that is, being in direct line, or in the “sights” of the Rahu / Ketu axis. This occurs, as in the previous lunar placement, when either Rahu or Ketu is conjunct (sitting with) the Moon, the other aspecting it from its position directly opposite, as Rahu and Ketu are always located 180 apart.
That being said, Rahu is aspecting the Moon in Cancer, yet from the sidelines so to speak, from 9 houses away, and not directly in line with it. As a result, the effects are lessened, yet the influence is still to provoke some unpredictability, doubt and confusion. The Sun this month is also in Cancer, sitting with the Moon creating a New Moon. This is not, then, the time to make any important decisions as the New Moon suggests instead a time of inner reflection as opposed to one of outer activity. Take the time, then, to get organized, and then put your plans into action when the Moon moves next into the dynamic and energetic sign of Leo.
July 21 to 23 — Moon in Leo
The Moon is now in another favorable position, that of Leo. Having given adequate inner reflection over the last few days, influenced by the Moon in Cancer, now is the time to put your plans into action. The Sun, the ruling planet of Leo, injects the Moon with its heat and passion. Those with this Moon feel capable to “make the impossible possible.” Needless to say, our thinking, and emotions at this time can be intensified; we can be fired up with a drive to succeed.
Once again, as with the earlier Moon in Gemini, there are no aspects impeding the enthusiasm associated with this emotionally capable sign. The green lights are on to initiate new projects regardless the theme.
July 23 to 25 — Moon in Virgo
As with the Moon in Gemini, the Moon in Virgo is also ruled by Mercury, the planet of communication. In contrast to Gemini, an air sign, Virgo is an earth sign – practical, analytical, and detail oriented. During this transit, Jupiter, Venus, Mars, and Ketu are all aspecting the Moon. In addition, all the planets aspecting the Moon are in earth signs. As a result, we may feel somewhat stalled in our thoughts; we may overthink so much so that we trip ourselves up. We need the flowing movement of air, the emotional content of water, and the energizing element of fire to round out our thoughts and to get things done. Too much of the earth element at this time may simply bury the idealistic nature of this Moon. Consequently, take the best of the practical, “down to earth” nature of this combination, yet don’t let an overly realistic mindset cause you to delay putting your ideas and plans into action.
July 25 to 27 — Moon in Libra
Venus, associated with beauty, love and the quest for harmony, is the planet ruling Libra. There is a gentle, yin flavor associated with the mental and emotional outlook of those with this Moon. There can be a strong desire to establish balance and equilibrium in life, yet this goal can also become a challenge. We need to let go and to not try so hard to create harmony, as in our intense efforts to do so, we sometimes miss the mark and can even, at times, upset the harmony “apple cart”.
At this time Saturn in Libra is aspecting the Moon. The contrasting nature of these 2 planets may cause even further consternation, as the struggle between Saturn’s restrictive nature and the Moon’s liberal, freedom-loving disposition may make this goal seem even further out of reach. Of course this possibility is more likely if you have Moon in Libra in your natal chart. Still, for others without this lunar placement, take a step back, breathe and see how things progress. Be receptive to others around you whom you have trusted in the past for advice.
July 27 to 29 — Moon in Scorpio
The Moon, now in Scorpio, is in a somewhat more difficult position than it was in Taurus. Once again, and similar to the Moon in Taurus, Rahu and Ketu have been impacting both these moons (see Rahu and Ketus’ positioning in the Moon in Taurus entry) over the last many months, and for approximately 6 more to come. And though these 2 shadow planets cast doubt in our minds, that of the Moon in Scorpio may take things too drastically; caution and suspicion in the extreme are characteristics of this placement.
That being said, this can be a somewhat volatile combination whereby we need to stay calm and peaceful; we cannot afford to take things personally and overreact to situations that may seem conflicting. Be mindful of this position, as during the Moon’s monthly transit through Scorpio, influenced by Rahu / Ketu, we may experience emotionally charged situations.
July 29 to 31 — Moon in Sagittarius
The Moon is now in the enthusiastic and pioneering sign Sagittarius. The Mars aspect to it may cause a bit of annoyance, as the controlling nature of this planet can somewhat inhibit the spontaneity of Sagittarius’ more outgoing spirit. In addition, Saturn, though well placed in Libra, eliciting our discernment, is also aspecting the Moon. Regardless the beneficial feature of this placement, Saturn has a neutral effect on Sagittarius. Consequently, we may not listen to the wise counsel of Saturn, preferring instead to do as we wish, wisdom displaced somewhat by the more convenient promptings of Mars in Virgo. Stay the course, and follow your original ideas. The Moon in Sagittarius can be a great time to adventurously move ahead with your plans.
July 31 to August 2 — Moon in Capricorn
The Moon has landed once again in Capricorn, ruled by Saturn, a conservative planet whereby we make decisions based on considerable thought and reflection. This is not a time to move quickly, but to make sure that all details of whatever you are doing have been thoroughly thought out. Mercury and Sun are aspecting the Moon, creating a wave whereby you may feel a subtle notion that you should be going faster. And although Ketu is also involved in this short planetary skirmish, Jupiter’s action is to modify any doubts or misgivings that you may have. In short, use your common sense, and try throwing your caution and inhibition a little bit into the wind.
August 2 to 4 — Moon in Aquarius
The Moon is now in Aquarius; ideas at this time can be fixed in our mind. Although this Moon is associated with creative and visionary thinking, we may, at times, become so involved with our thoughts and strong feelings regarding their fulfillment that we may unintentionally neglect to leave room in our thinking for the ideas of others.
Interestingly enough, over the last month, a few moon placements have been free of any challenging aspects that have the potential to skew our perception and emotional stability. Now is a good time to consolidate whatever long term plans you have been thinking about. Remember, however, that regardless how philanthropic and humanistic your goals, share them with those with whom a synergy can be created, providing for an even greater success of your plans.
August 4 to 6 — Moon in Pisces
The emotions and mental outlook of those with the Moon in Pisces are healthy. This is another creative and receptive lunar placement, though one with this Moon needs to stay focused as the mutability (changeability and adaptability) of Pisces indicates that we can be distracted. Consequently, we need to remain single-minded and stay the course with whatever we have started.
Rahu, now aspecting the Moon, can create an obstacle to the already “dualistic” nature of Pisces. We need to remain consciously aware of our original intentions, and to recognize that the influence of Rahu is to test our focus and conviction regarding whatever directions we are taking. Keeping this in mind, don’t interpret doubt as confusion and uncertainty. Rather, see this feeling as a sign that you need to make sure that you have looked at all the details, as well as your motives. Establishing this will make you feel more confident and convinced to move ahead with your plans.
August 6 to 8 — Moon in Aries
We march forward into Moon in Aries, quick, spontaneous, and sometimes regretfully impetuous. But then, what else should we expect from an active, emotional and mental mindset that is bent on taking action? During this short transit, we may feel compelled to rush headlong into matters, those for which, at other times, we might have second thoughts.
Saturn in Libra, though a sign of wisdom and discernment, is casting an aspect on the Moon that is not entirely welcome. The slow moving, thoughtful nature of Saturn is in stark contrast to the quick moving energy suggested by Mars, the ruling planet of Aries. There may be some frustration experienced if you feel that things are not going fast enough for you.
Take, then, the best of Saturn and Mars, the planet associated with this Moon. As a result, you will have the best of both worlds: the discernment of Saturn guiding the mentally and emotionally action-oriented Aries Moon. By striking a balance between a slower thought process, tempering the speed at which you would like to go, you are more likely to succeed.
August 8 to 10 — Moon in Taurus
Taurus is the best placement for the Moon, indicating fixed, grounded ideas that are doable and not vague and impractical. We need, however, to remain vigilant regarding our motives and intentions to achieve certain goals, and that they are not hampered by the nagging whisperings of Rahu and Ketu. As mentioned earlier in this article, Rahu and Ketu will be aspecting the Moon for another few months, lessening, to some extent, the great potential of this extremely auspicious lunar placement. We need to keep in mind that these two shadow planets do have a role in helping us continue with our karmic unfoldment. Consequently, they should not be seen as malevolent features of an astrological chart; rather they can be viewed as our “spiritual sparring partners” dedicated to making us stronger through their vexatious, taskmasterly influence. We are meant to get stronger, more confident, and with greater spiritual conviction as a result of dealing positively with the apparent “treacherous” nature of these two “demons”.
Forgivingly, Jupiter is there aspecting the Moon to soften the blow of these two tricksters. This should lighten the burdensome load that can be experienced emotionally and mentally as a result of Rahu and Ketu at this time. Keep in mind that although we are exploring lunar transits and the planets aspecting the Moon as it travels through the zodiac, these descriptions are also valid for the same aspects and planetary configurations seen in your natal birth chart. The difference being lunar transits are temporary, two and a half day affairs, whereas similar combinations seen in the birth chart are permanent. It is for this reason that the entire chart must be seen to determine all the influences that can impact you during the course of your lifetime.
August 10 to 12 — Moon in Gemini
The Moon is in Gemini sitting with Venus. There can be somewhat of a tug of war between the two, as they are not “friends” according to established planetary friendships that are a part of the basis for Vedic astrology. Each in themselves, when placed well in positive signs and away from each other, has the great potential to elicit profound creativity and harmony. As an example, we enjoy the creative process that we experience while at work, and equally enjoy the comfort and relaxation we experience after putting in a good day’s work. Together, however, we may simply be thinking of jumping into our Jacuzzi while in the middle of a brainstorming meeting with our fellow colleagues. It’s a bit like trying to mix oil and water. Consequently, we need to stay focused on what we are doing and being in the moment, as there may be an emotional comforting distraction coming from your peripheral vision that can only serve to lessen your concentration. Besides, how much will you enjoy your after work Jacuzzi if you have just spent an entire day in it in your mind with your creative project only partially conceived? We need to put the horse before the cart, and to keep it there. Remember the old axiom, “Business before pleasure”, simply to keep your mind fixed on what is really important in your life. Then you can jump into the water, and have even more fun.
In summary, by being aware of the Moon’s transits throughout the month, you can familiarize yourself with your innermost feelings and responses. If you would like to learn more about the effects of the Moon in the houses of your astrological chart, I would be more than happy to share my insights with you.

Consequently, through an analysis of your astrological chart, preventive measures can be suggested to help you achieve this end.
Next month, we will look at the effects of the Moon’s position from August 13th to September 10th.

Significant Lunar Effects this Month - June 2012

June 11 to 13 — Moon in Pisces
The Moon is now in Pisces, a gentle, sensitive, and creative placement. We are open to ideas, and perhaps now would be a good time to put that pen to paper, or at least your fingers to the keyboard. Music, writing, or any other creative task that you are contemplating is favored during this short transit. Even Mars that tends to be somewhat overwhelming at times can be of assistance, as it is well placed in Leo, suggesting a powerful, beneficial and motivating force that can prompt you to get to the keyboard faster. We just need to be receptive to Mars’ dynamic and intense nature. That means appreciating its heat as energetically stoking the fire of our creativity, rather than experiencing it as overheating our mental engine. Remember, we always have the choice as to how we react to planetary stimuli.
Rahu is also joining the play, adding its own uniquely challenging temperament into the fray. We need only recognize that its inherent nature is not to destroy us or skew our intentions, but to provoke doubt, and to induce within us a certain apprehension, making sure, for example, that we have looked carefully at every detail of our plans to see if we have left any stone unturned. Through this at times uncomfortable, disagreeable, and challenging process, we come to irrefutable conclusions that reinforce our conviction and commitment regarding whatever decisions we are choosing to make.
Take a look at where Rahu (and, of course, its opposite, Ketu) are in your chart, to see where these little mischief-makers are shaking things up in your life.
June 13 to 16 — Moon in Aries
The Moon is now in Aries, a fire sign ruled by Mars. Our characteristically yin, gentle and sensitive lunar expression is now influenced by this yang, energetic, and forceful planet. We need, therefore, to stay calm, and not be guided by impulsive, emotional behavior. For example, thank the person who just cut you off on the freeway for giving you the opportunity to give him or her the benefit of the doubt. Imagine that he’s late for a job interview, his wife is about to give birth in the back seat of the car or perhaps he is totally unconcerned about his poor and dangerous driving habits. What are you to do? Probably chasing him from lane to lane for the next 10 miles with your front bumper glued to his rear one is not the solution.
As Saturn is also aspecting the Moon, not to mention that it is retrograde and now in its earliest degree of Libra, a certain lack of wisdom (wisdom being a trademark of Saturn) may be noticed in how we deal with others; we may misjudge them. Keeping in mind the example of road rage or whatever else we are involved with, it is essential to remain peaceful, breathe mindfully, drink many bottles of water slowly – or take the bus.
June 16 to 18 — Moon in Taurus
The Moon is in its most favorable placement when in Taurus. Taurus, an earth element sign, provides a firm, practical grounding for the inspiration, ideas and perception associated with the Moon. As such, whatever we engage in during a Taurus Moon transit, whether initiating a project, doing some form of creative work, or simply making a purchase, the chance for a successful outcome is more likely at this time.
Moreover, Jupiter, also in Taurus, is conjunct (sitting with) the Moon. This is a highly auspicious planetary combination, as the expansive and optimistic energy of this benefic giant augurs prosperity and the materialization of the ideas and imagination of the Taurus Moon.
Ketu, however, is aspecting the Moon. The Mars-like indications of this shadow planet can be somewhat disruptive as we may be tempted to take short cuts in regards to our Jupiterian / Lunar ambitions; we may look for quick results. Consequently, we need to “go the whole nine yards” in spite of Ketu’s badgering us to do otherwise. Besides, we are bound to make mistakes if we rush unnecessarily. Keep in mind the carpenter’s axiom, “Measure twice, cut once”, to save yourself frustration and agitation. And of course, Rahu is aspecting the Moon from 180 away. Now in retrograde motion, plans and projects can be delayed - another reason to take your time and do what is necessary to succeed.
Venus is also aspecting the Moon and, though not its best friend, it can somewhat temper Ketu’s disruptive nature, making for a somewhat more forgiving and easier time to forge ahead with our plans. The advice here is not to give yourself such a hard time with expectations.
June 18 to 21 — Moon in Gemini
The Moon is now in the mentally agile, air element sign Gemini. We can be full of ideas; however, our imagination can run off with us unless we stick to one doable plan at a time. The Sun is now sitting conjunct the Moon, indicating the New Moon. As the Sun is a hot planet, its proximity to the Moon can be somewhat debilitating; we need to maintain our creative ideas in the forefront of our mind. In addition, Mercury is forming a trinity with these two luminaries, now all three in Gemini. The energy of this planetary combination of Sun, Moon, and Mercury can be a handful to manage and to direct successfully. However, like taming a team of wild horses, once coordinated, success can be achieved. Be clear regarding your decision making at this time so as to avoid mistakes that can cost you in the end.
June 21 to 23 — Moon in Cancer
The Moon is now in Cancer, its “at home” placement, indicating serenity of mind, gentleness, and a love of beauty and nature. Mercury, now in Cancer, is aspecting the Moon, sitting in conjunction with it. Moreover, Saturn and Rahu are also aspecting the Moon. Together these three planets can have a potentially negative influence on the Moon; Saturn is retrograde and in its earliest degree of Libra – our discrimination and wisdom may be somewhat challenged; Rahu is in an unfriendly placement in Scorpio - its eclipsing effect on our perception can be intensified; and Mercury in Cancer can create unnecessary emotional commotion as a result of these influences.
It might just be a time to lay low and observe what is happening around you. If at all possible, try to delay making any long- term important decisions. There will always be another day to make them – and to do so more successfully.
June 23 to 26 — Moon in Leo
The Moon has now transited into Leo, a fortunate and friendly position for the Moon. We may feel mentally and emotionally stimulated, and motivated to surge forward confidently and competently with our plans. During this short lunar transit, the only planet glancing at the Moon is Neptune, the planet of illusion and delusion, yet also the planet of mysticism. During this short transit, depending on your “spiritual constitution”, you may feel like doing more meditation or getting involved in some form of esoteric study. On the other hand, you may be more inclined to seek out the mysterious in the form of a mystery novel.
Regardless what you do during this time, you will have the courage and confidence to pursue your goals. And if Neptune can add a little “magic” into our lives, it may give us the motivation to look a bit more seriously into the esoteric world of meditation, palmistry, and astrology – where you can discover the magic of your own life.
June 26 to 28 — Moon in Virgo
The moon now transiting into Virgo is a highly idealistic placement; those with this Moon in their natal chart are inherently analytical and keen observers of detail. Of course, as with any sign, there is always the potential to swing too far to one side – in this case we need to guard against becoming overly critical in our thinking. For example, we need to allow for errors as we all make mistakes. It would be wise to use our critical thinking to see how a problem came about in the first place and to find solutions rather than making criticisms.
Jupiter is aspecting the Moon from 5 signs away in Taurus. Any aspect between these two planets is favorable; the strong, purposeful, and determined nature of Jupiter can spur on the latent creativity associated with the Moon. As Mars is also aspecting the Moon, energy and the motivation to take action are heightened considerably. Often it has been seen that Mars can create emotional and mental agitation in aspect to the Moon. The gentler, more refined nature of Jupiter, however, helps to attenuate Mars’ “damn the torpedoes” effect.
In addition, Uranus is also aspecting the Moon, influencing it with its own electrifying, unpredictable temperament. This can be positive, although it can somewhat ruffle the feathers of the rational and sensible Virgo Moon, as the doors are flung open with the inspirational “out of the box” input that Uranus can provide. During this transit, we need to keep our cool, stay open to ideas that at first may seem impractical or even outrageous, and go for the ride. You never know where it might take you.
June 28 to 30 — Moon in Libra
The Moon is now in Libra; our mind is geared towards all that is beautiful and harmonious. We need to make sure, however, that in our idealism and intense efforts to find the perfect balance in whatever we are engaged in, that we don’t end up creating more commotion than equilibrium. It is interesting to note that, at this time, Saturn is finally in direct (forward) motion, after having been retrograde for the last many months. The wisdom and discrimination attributed to this planet, especially as it is in its most favorable placement in Libra, can now, once again, be a powerful tool in our evolutionary toolbox. However, before we get too excited, Saturn is aspecting the Moon, potentially causing misunderstandings with those around us. Our or others’ attitude may be based more on self-justification and an opinionated point of view rather than the astuteness attributed to Saturn, when on its own and not interfering with an otherwise harmony-seeking Libran Moon. The Venusian nature of Libra – Venus being the ruling planet of this sign – may also tend towards more comfort-oriented venues, whereas Saturn’s nature is more severe, a no-nonsense “nose to the grindstone” type of energy. It can be seen, then, that these two energies are somewhat at odds, one being the antithesis of the other. How then do we handle this apparent irreconcilable difference between them. Stay creative and use the strategic nature of Saturn to structure realistically your idealistic objectives. The more coordinated your time, the more you will get done and faster. The time saved can be enjoyed doing all those things that make life pleasing and comforting. Just keep the cart behind the horse.
June 30 to July 2 — Moon in Scorpio
Well, we’re back with the Moon in Scorpio – Mars ruled and ready for action. The mind and emotions governed by Mars, the ruling planet of Scorpio, are intense, yet sometimes stubborn to a fault. There is nothing wrong with wanting to do things in our own way, as long as we leave the door open to modify our plans rather than insisting that ours is the only way to reach an objective. Rahu in Scorpio is sitting with the Moon – forming a conjunction. As both the Moon in Scorpio and Rahu in this same placement are unfavorable, we need to be more accepting of others. In the extreme, we can be mistrusting and even suspicious of others’ motives; we may be so much in our own bubble that we can be blindly, stubbornly, and angrily set in an emotional and mental mindset that leaves little room for dialogue or mediation. We need to back up, and give ourselves a little gray zone where we can find some space to think objectively before reacting. We don’t want to spend the rest of the month backpedaling trying to repair damage caused by today’s over reactive behavior. Regardless the situation, if you feel that you are about to metamorphose into something you might regret, take the time to breathe slowly for a while, so that you can think and act appropriately.
July 2 to 4 — Moon in Sagittarius
We move out of Scorpio and into Sagittarius, a great placement of the Moon ruled by noble and virtuous Jupiter. This short transit may prompt you into adventurous, “what if” explorative thinking. The outgoing enthusiastic and high-minded nature of Jupiter reinforces a positive mindset and stable emotions. However, as is often the case, both positive and negative influences have an impact on the Moon as it transits through the signs. During this transit, Saturn, a challenging influence, is glancing at the Moon. To some extent then, its characteristically restrictive and cautious nature can put a dent in this Moon’s normally adventurous nature. We may think twice before attempting something that, at another time, would be of no consequence. Mars aspecting the Moon prompts us into action. Pluto, also aspecting the Moon, even more so incites the Moon into action - being the bigger more powerful brother of Mars. This contradiction in energies can create ambivalence within us. On one hand, we want to move forward energetically yet, on the other, we may feel reticent to act. Even though the Sun is aspecting the Moon from 180 away – indicating the creative and dynamic full moon, we may still feel the power of these other antagonistic energies. So as not to trip up, this is not the time to do anything risky even if you feel all calculated risks have been taken into account.
July 4 to 6 — Moon in Capricorn
The Moon is now in Capricorn. Our thinking may now lean more towards practicality rather than sentimentality. Indeed, we may be less outgoing in our outlook, however, our caution may be justified in our desire to be successful; we don’t want to make any mistakes that might limit our success. During this transit, Mercury is aspecting the Moon. As these two planets are not entirely friendly to each other - let alone the Moon is somewhat challenged in Capricorn - Mercury’s tendency to be expedient which, at times, may result in cutting corners – something that is not in line with this Moon’s protracted and cautious methodology.
Jupiter, however, is also casting its glance on the Moon, guiding as usual in whatever direction we are headed. As a result, it can help temper Mercury’s overly enthusiastic “opportunistic” impulse to get things done, regardless the method. During this transit, then, we need to hold our grounds regarding our plans, yet take advantage of the effervescent Mercurian energy that can be experienced at this time. Just don’t take any shortcuts.
July 6 to 8 — Moon in Aquarius
The Moon is now in Aquarius, a sign indicating visionary and creative ideas and imagination. During this transit, the only planet aspecting the Moon is Neptune, the planet of illusion yet also of mysticism. Depending on your outlook, this can be a time to get involved with some form of spiritual discipline such as meditation, or perhaps to read up on different aspects of metaphysics. We may feel somehow that we need to develop our intuition, an ability that enables us to act spontaneously and accurately in all kinds of situations. Mudras, meditation, and yoga are all good places to start to help us demonstrate this powerful force that is inherent in all of us.
Next month, we will look at the effects of the Moon’s position from July 11th to August 8th.

Significant Lunar Effects this Month - May 2012
As we mentioned in last month’s column, of all the celestial bodies, Jyotish places most emphasis on the Moon, as it takes 28 days (more precisely 27 days, 7 hours 43 minutes) to revolve around the Earth, consequently making us more susceptible to its influence.

Moon in Pisces, May 15th to 17th
The Moon is now in the emotional water sign, Pisces. This gentle Moon brings with it an openness of mind that is filtered through our sentiments and feelings. This is a positive placement for the Moon, suggesting a sensitive, subtle mind. We are more than likely to be in touch with our feelings and can have an easy, flowing manner of self-expression. We may need to watch, however, that we maintain a balance between our emotions and logic, as we can have a tendency to make emotional decisions. As Rahu and Mars are both aspecting the Moon at this time, the vulnerable, yin Moon may be up for a bit of a tussle. Mars, the warrior planet, can work in one of two ways – it can prompt the Moon, our mind and feelings, to initiate ideas and plans, moving them from thought (Moon) into action (Mars). In contrast, however, as a result of its assertive nature, Mars can inflame our emotions, ones that are already susceptible to being influenced. As a result, we may make hasty, emotional decisions, rather than thinking them out. Rahu, casting its strategic weight upon the Moon, can create some inner confusion and doubt – impairing our intuition.
Over the next few days, then, see to what extent you are experiencing feelings that are intuitively governed or ones that are simply emotion based, provoked as a result of Mars and Rahu. Think of this time, then, as providing the opportunity to do an “emotional stability evaluation”, and to see if you are mostly acting or reacting.
Moon in Aries, May 17th to 20th
The Moon has now moved from the gentle, emotional sign of Pisces to the fiery and actively engaged mind of Aries. Our emotions are ruled by Mars, and we want to get things done. We need to guard, however, against doing things impulsively. Intensifying the fiery temperament of this Moon, Mercury is now aspecting it, electrifying the atmosphere with its own brand of eccentricity.
Saturn is also in aspect to the Moon, and although it can be restrictive in a practical, pragmatic, matter of fact manner, in this scenario it may help create a balance between thought and action. Saturn’s nature is to put a pause on things, and to coordinate and temper other more unruly planetary energies by introducing common sense. Accordingly, with any transactions, contracts or plans that you may be anticipating, Saturn will urge us to “dot the I’s and cross the T’s”, saving yourself from experiencing potential headaches in the future.
Moon in Taurus, May 20th to 22nd
The Moon is now in Taurus, its most favorable placement. Taurus relates to the element earth, whereas the Moon is associated with water. The spontaneous, creative aspect of the mind in this sign is focused and given free rein to flow unhindered, interfered for example through subjective or negative emotions. Think of a riverbed (Taurus – earth element) that provides a channel through which a river (Moon – water element) can effortlessly flow. This Moon placement, then, whether in transit or in a natal chart, indicates a time of creativity whereby we can work more effectively to materialize our thoughts and plans.
Having Ketu aspecting the Moon at this time, however, can create a challenge; we need to stay focused, and not let our thoughts overflow the river banks, flooding our mind with doubts that can deviate us from our original goals. For example, we can get sidetracked, feeling compelled to go after some unfulfilled desire. Ketu has a knack of bringing up old, past issues that can cloud our vision for the present. So keep your priorities in line and don’t get distracted.
Moon in Gemini, May 22nd to 25th
Those with a Moon in Gemini are full of ideas and with a desire to communicate them with others, regardless the mode of communication. It is fitting that Gemini, ruled by Mercury, the planet of communication and self-expression, is an air sign. Think of various forms of telecommunication, including simple speech that is made possible as sound vibration requires air for its transmission. In its purest forms, thought and telepathy are some of the most refined examples of our Mercurian potential. Here, as opposed to air, these rely on the ether, the element associated with Mercury.
Now that the Moon is in this Mercurial sign, we may feel more artistic or creative in our activities. There can be an aura of effervescence in the air where we may feel more animated and inclined to speak with others and to share our ideas. Keep in mind that as Gemini is a mutable sign – adaptable and open to new concepts – we need to stay focused, and to seriously look at which of our many ideas is doable.
Venus is aspecting the Moon during this short transit. We need to stick with our original creative plans, as Venus sitting in close proximity to the Moon may “seduce” us into taking it easier. This attitude may simply undermine and delay our creative efforts. So put your nose to the grindstone, do what you need to do, and then enjoy yourself. It’s just a matter of putting the horse and the cart in their proper place.
Moon in Cancer, May 25th to 27th
The Moon is now happily situated in its own sign, Cancer, associated with sensitivity, heightened awareness and intuition. This transit can arouse our emotional, feeling side. Often we may find that we need to tuck this gentler, more tender aspect of our nature out of sight perhaps simply out of self-preservation in order to function in typically stressful life situations. This emotional management may be more evident during this short transit, as Saturn is aspecting the Moon; our emotional and creative spontaneity may feel somewhat restricted. Moreover, Rahu is also influencing the Moon; we may feel constrained to behave according to some inner drive based on some subjective strategy of Rahu in Scorpio which can cause some agitation.
As a great saint once said, “A wise man rules his planets”. Taking all of the above into account, the Moon in Cancer can be a time whereby we overrule any restrictions we may be feeling, recognizing the importance of counterbalancing our more practical logical “life is tough, front lines” mentality, with our deeper, inherently intuitive, sensitive and loving soul nature. Life will always present us with challenging situations; however, it is up to us to not lose our heart and to stay open and creative with the inner satisfaction that we have found balance in an often whirlwind existence.
Moon in Leo, May 27th to 29th
The Moon is now in the fiery sign, Leo. Our thinking and emotions now turn from the yin feeling nature of Cancer to those that are yang in nature; we are enthusiastic and motivated with a strong desire to manifest our ideas into some form of constructive reality. We can easily express our feelings outwardly which can have a positive, contagious effect on those around us.
Mars in Leo is conjunct the Moon. Although this aspect can feel a bit too close for comfort, as Mars can be somewhat pushy, yet it can also be a motivating, propelling force to activate further the Moon’s fiery, passionate temperament. That being said, you may really feel like expressing yourself in very certain terms. Just be careful that you don’t overdo it, as both Mars and Moon are intense in this fiery sign.
A hand-written love letter may end up with friction burns just from the speed and passionate intensity of your pen on the paper. Email is probably the way to go, just don’t fry your keyboard in your sizzling enthusiasm to express your feelings.
Moon in Virgo, May 29th to 31st
The Moon, now in Virgo, is ruled by Mercury, the planet of communication. Here again, as the Moon in Gemini, we have many ideas and concepts. Yet Virgo, being an earth sign, we are “down to earth”, pragmatic and practical in how we communicate both our thoughts and our feelings. In our desire to be analytical, detail oriented and organized, we need to guard against being overly critical.
Ketu and Jupiter are both aspecting the Moon, five houses away from their placement in Taurus. As there are often multiple aspects on the Moon from various planets, their combined influence will have interesting and at times complex effects. Ketu’s influence is to provoke us into action, often based on previously engaged past life activity – some of which we may not have been entirely satisfied with. We need to maintain our discrimination and to guard against impetuous, knee jerk urges to act in ways that are not appropriate to our present day situation.
Jupiter in this combination of aspecting planets provides guidance so that we can remain more objective and less reactive. In addition to the planets aspecting the Moon is the unusual stellium (grouping of planets) sitting with Jupiter and Ketu in Taurus, a feature of the chart not yet discussed. There are five planets in total. Whenever there is such a large collection of planets sitting in one house, the imbalance created will have a significant influence depending on which house in the chart they are sitting. Of course, our ascendant, or first house, will determine in which one of the twelve houses these planets will be placed. Knowing this, we can anticipate what we may experience, in addition to the above indications, during this lunar transit.
Moon in Libra, May 31st to June 2nd
The Moon is now in Libra, an air sign ruled by Venus. This placement indicates that we can focus on the areas of life that provide comfort. We want to be free to dream and to let our imagination soar without restriction. We don’t want any boundaries to limit this free-wheeling aspect of our creative imagination. Unbounded thinking, however, can have its downside; we can be unpredictable if we get lost in an imaginary mental maze of our own creation.
Saturn is aspecting the Moon at this time. As a result, we may feel somewhat restricted, the “nose to the grindstone” nature of Saturn, being in stark contrast to the unrestrained desires of this Moon. Consequently, there can be a conflict whereby we may be a bit confused, claustrophobic or confined in our consciousness. For example, we may feel that our creative dreams have somehow been derailed. This is, however, Saturn’s way of stopping us in our tracks, enabling us to really see if our plans and ideas are simply castles in the sky or feasible in our power to actualize.
During this short transit, we can take a pause, run our ideas through others, and then follow through with whatever creative ideas (Moon) we have planned based on a solid practical strategy (Saturn) for its successful completion.
Moon in Scorpio, June 2nd to 4th
The Moon in Scorpio, like Cancer and Pisces, is in a water sign, the element indicating our emotions, feelings and perceptions. In addition, this Moon is ruled by Mars, a fiery, yang, and intense force. Together, this combination can be quite formidable; we think and feel deeply and passionately. One drawback, however, is that as a result of Scorpio’s inherent silent and secretive nature, we can become overly cautious, and perhaps distrusting and suspicious. In our “holding the cards close to the chest”, we may deny others access to us; we may not be willing to listen to advice; rather, we like to do things in our manner.
To spice up the pot, there are 5 planets in Taurus – Jupiter, Ketu, Sun, Venus and Mercury –aspecting the Moon from 180 away (an opposition). And, for good measure, a 6th planet is also aspecting the Moon, as Mars is in Leo. The technical term for the potentially disruptive effects of this planetary combination is “mayhem”. Actually not, but you get the idea. For example, geologically there can be more flooding and mudslides. Emotionally, there can be much tension and rash, impassioned behavior.
So we will all need to take a collective breath, count to 10 or even better 10,000 to help us stay calm longer, so that we don’t make any impetuous decisions that we could easily regret in the future.
Moon in Sagittarius, June 4th to 6th
The Moon has now moved into Sagittarius, a friendly placement ruled by noble Jupiter, and away from the “mayhem” of the last few days. Perhaps, if through our collective unconscious wisdom has prevailed, we are no worse off than before. By the time the Moon has gone into Sagittarius, we will know just how wise we have all been.
Now it’s time for a bit of fresh air; we can come out of ourselves and look to the future with a sense of optimism and enthusiasm with an explorative frame of mind.
Moreover, Mercury is aspecting the Moon from its well-placed and friendly position in the communicative and exuberant sign, Gemini. There is a greater chance that, for example, if détente is needed, it can now be more easily achieved. We have the desire to express ourselves peacefully and with diplomacy as Jupiter, the ruling planet of the Moon in Sagittarius can make us more tactful.
Finally Saturn, still in exalted placement in Libra, urges us to maintain a wise and discriminating outlook with those around us. In all, this short transit heralds a time to move forward with optimism and healthier communication.
Moon in Capricorn, June 6th to 9th
The Moon is now in Capricorn, a sign ruled by Saturn. Over the next few days, we may withdraw a little, somewhat in contrast to the at times overly enthusiastic, exuberant influence of a Sagittarian Moon. We may be a bit more introspective and prudent, as our mind and feelings have a tendency to be filtered through the Saturnian attributes of caution, discipline and strategy. Consequently, a circumspect, “let’s wait and see” disposition may predominate now; we want to see if something concrete will come out of whatever activity we have been doing.
Jupiter is also aspecting the Moon, adding a healthy dose of enthusiasm and ambition to move things forward, as well as adding a livelier flavor to the days ahead.
Moon in Aquarius, June 9th to 11th
In addition to Capricorn, Saturn – the planet of discipline, focus, and strategy – also rules the Moon in Aquarius. And although Saturn is considered a first-rate malefic, ultimately, when we do the work associated with this planet, we create greater structure in our lives. We become more serious and profound, embracing far-reaching objectives. We recognize the importance of our thoughts and actions, and their consequences on others and ourselves.
Accordingly, the thoughts and feelings of those with the Moon in Aquarius partake of these Saturnian qualities. We are visionary and humanitarian. During this short transit, then, we have the potential to lighten up a bit from the more cautious, practical and down to earth nature of the previously experienced Capricorn Moon. Aquarius is an air sign, enabling greater movement, freeing us up to widen our vision and not to get caught up in any one frame of mind.
During this transit, Mars is aspecting the Moon. Mars is an outgoing, forceful, and fast-moving energy coming up against the more introspective, interiorized, and slow-moving energy of Saturn (Aquarius). This can cause some upsets, as these two energies are in contrast to each other. Be careful that you don’t become too self-willed, stubborn, and agitated, holding on to a point of view – one that at any other time could be discussed more agreeably. If you have to agree to disagree, go ahead; there will always be another more peaceful day to come to an agreement.
In summary, by being aware of the Moon’s transits throughout the month, you can familiarize yourself with your innermost feelings and responses. If you would like to learn more about the effects of the Moon, especially how it is affecting the particular house it is transiting in your astrological chart, I would be more than happy to share my insights with you.
Moreover, as astrology can be defined as our response to planetary influences, being a spark of the Infinite, we have the free will to overcome or at least minimize any negative influences. Consequently, through an analysis of your astrological chart, preventive measures can be suggested to help you achieve this end.
Next month, we will look at the effects of the Moon’s position from June 11th to July 9th, 2012.

Significant Lunar Effects this Month - April 2012

Moon in Scorpio - April 8 to 11
The Moon in Scorpio is traditionally associated with an intensity of mind and a passionate outlook, yet one that can also be overly cautious and somewhat wary and suspicious when it comes time to trust and open one’s heart to another. The challenging nature of this sign placement may be heightened as during this short transit, Rahu is conjunct the Moon, casting a further doubt on an already uncertain mental outlook. Moreover, the conjunction of Rahu with the Moon implies that Ketu also will be aspecting the Moon forming an opposition to it. Whenever both Rahu and Ketu have an influence on this lunar body, we need to be careful that we are being clear in our thinking and not taking things at face value; both these “shadow planets” are exacting, invariably testing our convictions through challenging circumstances.
Mars is also in the mix these days, somewhat pressuring us to move quickly. However, as it is in retrograde motion, we may not be as strong or motivated to carry out our resolutions. This may simply create further agitation. This is a time, then, to back off a little, give yourself a bit of a breather, and not rush into anything.
Moon in Sagittarius - April 11 to 13
The Moon, now in Sagittarius, is ramped up to explore and investigate. Although this placement is a good indicator for moving ahead with our plans, we need to guard against going overboard in our enthusiasm. To this end Saturn in Libra, its most favorable placement can, through a wise yet somewhat restricting and delaying nature, keep the Moon’s exuberance as well as its namesake, Jupiter also aspecting the Moon, in check. So go ahead with the best of what Saturn has to offer, however, don’t lose your spontaneity, hope and enthusiasm in the process.
Moon in Capricorn – April 13 to 15
The mind and emotions of Saturn-ruled Moon in Capricorn can be cautious in its expression. At this time we may feel the need to turn over every stone before making any decisions. We may be critical and analytical in our thinking, amassing all the necessary facts… and more, as a strategy to hedge against making any wrong moves.
Ketu’s aspect on Moon, though Mars-like in its influence, usually a provoking one, is somewhat tempered by its conjunction with Venus; we can maintain the practicality of the Saturnian Moon, prodded into action through a softened Ketu, its rough edges rounded off by the gentler touch of Venus – the planet of love.
Moon in Aquarius – April 15 to 17
The mind equated with the Moon in Aquarius is stimulated by the air element. As a result, our thinking can be lofty, inspirational, and visionary; we are open to new ideas and are able to think “out of the box”. The yang, fire and intensity of Mars at this time is in opposition (180 aspect) to the Moon. Mars casting its assertive glance on the Moon can even provide some needed motivation. Although we may still feel impatient, the tradeoff is that we can mobilize and focus (Mars) the intuitive mind of the Aquarian Moon to initiate or accomplish whatever goals we have set for ourselves. Keep in mind, however, to stay calm and not jump to conclusions.
Moon in Pisces – April 17 to 20
The Moon, now in Pisces, can evoke a spiritual, imaginative, and creative frame of mind. We need to persist, however, with any ideas or concepts that we believe in, as with the mutable nature of this Moon, we need to not only think great thoughts, but to materialize them. Keeping this in mind, we can be well on our way to achieving success.
In this instance, however, Mercury is conjunct the Moon, an unfavorable placement. Then, as Mercury provides the channel for our expression, we may feel some disruption in the smooth, flowing communication of our ideas. Moreover, we may experience Mars’ present aspect to the Moon as pushing us to move quickly. Rahu in Scorpio – Scorpio ruled by Mars - can further add to this condition. Consequently, we need to slow down and carefully watch our thoughts, making sure that what we say is clear and concise. In this way, we can move through this short transit with our creativity and peace of mind intact.
Moon in Aries – April 20 to 22
The Moon is in Aries. It’s time to put on your mental running shoes. In addition, the Sun and Jupiter are conjunct the Moon. As all three planets are friends – yes, even the planets have friends and enemies – take this opportunity to move ahead with your plans. You may feel empowered and more ambitious than at other times. Saturn, though not a great friend of the Sun, Moon, and Jupiter, is in Libra, in its own best placement. We can, therefore, benefit from the wisdom associated with this planet, yet we may be tested just the same to maintain our persistence and enthusiasm as Saturn’s tendency is to restrict and delay.
Moon in Taurus – April 22 to 25
Once again we are back with the Moon in Taurus, its most favorable placement. Usually, whenever the Moon transits this sign, it is a good idea to start something, for example a healthier diet or a physical regime. If there is an item that you have anticipated buying, now is a good time to purchase. This Moon placement suggests depth of perception, and a highly creative and idealistic mind. As can be expected, however, there are generally other planetary bodies that influence the expression of this lunar placement. Rahu and Ketu will have this honor. Both are in their most challenging placement, that being Scorpio and Taurus respectively, placing the Moon directly in line with these two shadow planets. As it is the nature of these taskmasters to test us, we will benefit in the end by learning the lessons they are trying to show us, albeit sometimes the hard way. This planetary arrangement, then, can test our creative mental conviction by running us through a mental gauntlet experienced at times as disturbing feelings of inhibition, agitation, doubt and questioning. Ultimately, it’s all for the good. Besides, unless this is a placement in your natal chart – which would need to be examined further – this transit lasts only a few days.
Moon in Gemini – April 25 to 27
Ahhhhh, a breath of fresh air. The Moon is in Gemini, an air sign; we may feel the breeze of new ideas percolating in our mind. We may experience an unimpeded flow in our thinking as, at this time, there are no challenging planetary aspects that, otherwise, could skew or inhibit this movement. Rather than being boxed in, we are open to new ideas. We need, however, to choose our priorities and to stick with them, as too many ideas may be circulating in our mind. As Gemini is an air sign, this lunar placement shows that we can also be somewhat restless. Therefore, if something needs to be done, stay focused and use all the creative ingenuity associated with this Moon to accomplish your goals.
Moon in Cancer – April 27 to 30
The Moon, now in Cancer, is in one of its most favorable placements, relating to a creative, perceptive mind and deeply felt emotions and intuition enabling those with this Moon to tune into the needs of others. As the Moon is associated with our mind, emotions, and feelings, aspects give us the opportunity to work towards balancing these characteristics; we become more objective, perceptive, and thus, closer to our soul nature. This is how we grow and evolve.
Accordingly, though the Moon is well-placed in Cancer, it is being aspected by Rahu. As a result, we need to buoy up our inspiration and to maintain our convictions. We have to watch out that we don’t quickly draw some faulty conclusion that can overturn our better judgment. Saturn is also aspecting the Moon. As it is in its best placement, Libra, we may feel the urge to slow down and do a little introspection. In this scenario, Saturn’s restrictive nature can be a blessing, somewhat counteracting Rahu’s challenging influence.
Moon in Leo – April 30 to May 2
The Moon in Leo is another great place that can channel our mind and emotional self in an uplifting, magnanimous and positively resolute manner. We are daring and optimistic. Mars aspecting the Moon at this time can intensify your drive as long as you don’t get upset or agitated feeling that you are being pushed too fast – so stay calm. Having both the Moon and Mars in Leo can be pretty spectacular, as both planets are now in this fire sign. If you are clear where you are going and what you want to accomplish, this is a good time to do something constructive. Moreover, Jupiter is aspecting the Moon, tossing in a generous amount of guidance and resourcefulness, complementing whatever purpose you have in mind. audacious
Moon in Virgo – May 2 to 4
Mercury, the planet of communication, rules the Moon in Virgo. In part, Mercury provides a two-way channel of expression through which we both gather information, intellectually and intuitively, and how each of us expresses our inner thoughts and ideas. Virgo is an earth sign, suggesting a grounded, rational, and analytical mode of expression. Those with this lunar placement, then, have many concepts to share with others. They are creative, constructive and result oriented, yet their ideas need to be practical.
Mercury, however, is in its less favorable placement, Pisces. And though the Moon in Virgo strives to be clear and concise, this Mercury aspect can bring about disorganized thinking that may create some confusion. In addition, Ketu has been thrown into the astrological pot, challenging our ability to perceive correctly. All in all, this is a time to run your heartfelt plans and ideas past those who have given you wise counsel in the past. Make sure to think things out, and don’t jump to any conclusions.
Moon in Libra – May 4 to 6
Venus, the planet of love, yet also of all that is comforting and pleasurable, rules the Moon in Libra. Consequently, during this transit, we may turn our thoughts towards more comforting areas of life. We all have a need to unwind, change our focus, and enjoy life. Yet, when there is an influence, such as Saturn, now aspecting the Moon, we can feel greater pressure due to its extreme, taxing, no-nonsense approach, in stark contrast to a more relaxing and comforting attitude. It is the polarized feeling that is upsetting. For example, we want to go see a movie, yet somewhere in the peripheral of our mind we may feel a sense of restriction in that we “should” be doing something more deep and worthy of our time.
Fortunately, Jupiter and Sun are also aspecting the Moon. The energy of both has a stimulating, guiding force that can take the comforting and, at times, unpredictable nature of a Moon in Libra to new heights of accomplishment. Consequently, Saturn, though somewhat restrictive and delaying, can join in and cooperate with its strategic influence, tempered by Sun and Jupiter, to create. Whereas any negative influence (Saturn is a malefic) can be mitigated by the effulgence of the Full Moon. During this time, then, the wayward, comfort seeking nature of this lunar placement can be channeled towards creative work that can beautify our surroundings. We can use our time and creativity to be of service to others.
Moon in Scorpio – May 6 to 8
Mars rules Scorpio, the planet associated with this Moon. You can visualize the result of linking the yang, energetic nature of Mars, the planet of war, with the yin, gentle nature that defines the Moon. We can be mentally and emotionally intense, and at times missing the more compassionate side of the Moon. We can be driven to achieve what we want; however, we need also to remain attuned positively to what others around us are doing.
During this short transit, we may feel the need to hold our cards close to the vest, as there can be doubt and suspicion in the air. And Rahu, now in aspect to the Moon, can add a certain unpredictability, aggravating the emotions further. This can be a somewhat difficult transit, especially if we hold stubbornly to our opinions, or worse if we hold it against someone whose point of view differs from our own. Once again, don’t rush into things as you need first to determine if the direction you are headed is one that is based on sound reasoning. Stay calm, stick to your inspiration, and don’t let any suspicion or doubt creep in to spoil the occasion.
Moon in Sagittarius – May 8 to 10
The Moon has now gone into the adventurous and explorative sign, Sagittarius. During this transit, Saturn, Jupiter, and Mars are aspecting the Moon. Saturn casts a somewhat restrictive and cautious element that can temper slightly the at times overly enthusiastic nature of Jupiter, the ruling planet of Sagittarius. However, it can still feel restricting and limiting. Fortunately, Jupiter is aspecting the Moon, creating a Gaja Kesari yoga (a yoga being an association between planets). This “yoga” in any chart is really favorable, indicating that one can achieve great success. To round things out, Venus in Gemini, opposite Sagittarius, is casting an aspect on the Moon. Venus adds the element of joy and pleasure in whatever we do, complementing the already creative and productive nature of the Moon and Jupiter. Consequently, it’s time to do something fun and constructive.
Moon in Capricorn – May 10 to 12
Saturn, the planet of discipline and structure, rules the Moon in Capricorn. The thinking process of those with this lunar placement is practical and cautious, slow yet determined. They are serious and have their feet (and their mind) firmly planted on the ground. At this time, Ketu is aspecting the Moon, its energy diametrically opposed to the slower moving, one-step-at-a-time Moon in Capricorn. Ketu’s tendency is to rush things, urging us to make quick decisions that we could regret later. However, if we stay focused and unrushed, Ketu can be of some help, as it is a motivating force.
Moon in Aquarius – May 12 to 14
Saturn, the planet of discipline and structure, in addition to ruling the Moon in Capricorn also is the ruler of Aquarius. Aquarius is an air sign, air being a constant moving and flowing element as opposed to the grounded, practical element earth relating to Capricorn. As such, those with this Moon are charged with plenty of ideas and concepts that, having a Saturnian flavor, are serious and profound. At this time, Mars is aspecting the Moon, an aspect that can often result in mental and emotional agitation. The Moon in Aquarius is fixed and does not easily change direction. Consequently, try and stay open to others ideas, and if this is difficult to do, try to agree to disagree – and do it with a smile.
Next month, we will look at the effects of the Moon’s position from May 14th to June 11th 2012.

Moon Position throughout the Signs
The timetable below indicates when the Moon enters each of the 12 signs throughout the month.
Significant Lunar Effects this Month - March 2012
Moon in Scorpio - March 12 to 14
Over the next couple of days the Moon will be in Scorpio, so we need to pay attention to how we are thinking, as well as how we are behaving with others. This Moon placement suggests that, though we would like to see our plans progressing, we can be somewhat rigid and overcautious in our outlook, which can, to some extent, take away the fun we are having with what we are doing.
In addition, Rahu is conjunct the Moon at this time, injecting a strategic, yet potentially disruptive influence that can adversely affect our perception; we may act more out of confusion than clarity. Moreover, our thinking can be agitated as a result of Mars aspecting the Moon. For example, this combination can lead to disagreements at work regarding the direction that should be taken with the group, or if we work alone, we may doublethink ourselves into a corner.
So as to avoid both this potential inner mental conflict, and outer friction with others, this is a time to breathe, meditate, go for a long walk, agree to disagree, and recognize that it is not the time to make any serious, long-term decisions. Remember, there will always be another day to forge ahead. Take this opportunity, then, to do a little introspection, and to explore why things seem to be headed in certain directions. You will profit from this interiorization.
Moon in Sagittarius - March 14 to 16
The Moon now transiting Sagittarius opens the floodgates for greater expansion and enthusiasm. We can be more adventurous in our thinking, leading us to be more dynamic in action. The cautionary influence of Saturn on the Moon, our mind, is tempered by the more outgoing, venturesome inclination associated with Jupiter – also aspecting the Moon at this time. The combined influence of these two planets, then, is to motivate us to move forward optimistically, yet with a soupçon of Saturnian caution thrown in for good measure.
Moon in Capricorn - March 16 to 19
The Moon is now in Capricorn, a practical, pragmatic and down to earth placement. Those with this Moon are not easily convinced; they believe in verifiable facts, and it is for this reason that they make good business people. And, as a result of their scrutiny, they are almost guaranteed success in their endeavors. This Moon placement, however, also shows that we can be overly cautious and, like a shrewd poker player, we play our cards close to the chest. We would benefit from opening up a little more and being more trusting.
In addition, Ketu – now in Taurus – is aspecting the Moon. Ketu, or Rahu for that matter, have a tendency to somewhat ruffle our thinking when placed with (conjunct) or aspecting the Moon, creating at times some mental agitation. Ketu in its own inimical way demands clarification. It prods us to be sure and convinced of how and what we are thinking. This can be experienced as an uncomfortable inner cross-examination, whereby we can feel self-doubt and uncertainty as to the quality of our perception and the validity of our intentions. The result of this “interrogation”, however, is that by having it, we are able to validate our mental projections, having had them forged in the fire of self-analysis. Ultimately, through the agency of Ketu, the reservations brought to our consciousness regarding our perceptual clarity are given validity, perhaps with even greater conviction, than what we may have had before experiencing this inner dialogue. Consequently, we are given a green light to go ahead, and can do so with confidence and greater certainty.
Moon in Aquarius – March 19 to 21
During the days that the Moon is in Aquarius, we may have new ideas that challenge us to think farther ahead into the future, without putting limits on their vision. This Moon placement is associated with concepts and visualizations to accomplish goals that, to others, may appear to be unreasonable or not feasible. This is so, as those with this Moon think out of the box; they believe in accomplishing “impossible” things. At this time, Mars, now in retrograde motion, is aspecting the Moon. This apparent backwards movement of Mars can restrict to some degree the normally vibrant and dynamic energy of this planet. Consequently, this can somewhat put a damper on our thinking.
Fortunately, Jupiter is also in the mix, casting a beneficial glance on the Moon. Its guiding effect supports a positive mood to persevere and not entertain any discouraging or disappointing thoughts, as a result of Mars influence. At this time, then, we can move forward, though perhaps with a bit less energy. Go slowly and be Zen-like. In this way, you can accomplish more and with less agitation.
Moon in Pisces – March 21 to 24
The Moon is now in Pisces, a favorable placement indicating intuition and inspiration. The trick here is to follow through with your ideas until they become a reality. Sun is now conjunct the Moon – bringing about a new moon. This can be a very mystical time, if you have an inclination towards things spiritual. These days, you may feel more expressive and emotionally demonstrative, wanting to share your feelings with others. It is a time to enjoy life, as your appreciation for music, art and other appealing sensual activities is heightened now.
Things can still, however, be somewhat challenging as Mercury, now retrograde, is aspecting this new moon. It is necessary, then, that we maintain clear communication with those around us. Any misunderstanding left unresolved now may surface with greater repercussions at some time in the future. Moreover, Rahu’s aspect to the Moon can create further annoyance; we may feel some doubt as a result of its tendency to eclipse our perception.
Now then is a time to take a step back, watch our thoughts, and experience the next couple of days, observing how our communication affects others as well as how others are interacting. As mentioned above, and if you haven’t already done so, this would be a great time to start practicing spiritual techniques, such as meditation and yoga.
Moon in Aries – March 24 to 26
The Moon is now in Aries. We may have to put on our mental seatbelts, as our thinking process may have just moved into high gear. This is a fiery, yang, and abrupt moving placement for the normally sedate and yin character usually associated with the Moon. We may not stand for restriction or delays at this time, being somewhat impulsive and impatiently wanting to get our plans on the move.
Jupiter, a reasonable guiding force, will tend to steer the impetuous nature of Mars. It can, however, be inclined to behave somewhat rashly, as it is also in fiery Aries.
In addition, Venus, also in Aries, is aspecting the Moon, amplifying an already charged atmosphere; we want to get things done. We need to keep our priorities clear, however, as the nature of Venus here may lead us to satisfy our comforts first.
Saturn, thrown into the mix, may leave us feeling a bit frustrated as, being slow and cautious in nature, it conflicts with the fast-moving, dynamic activity of Aries.
We need to stay calm and patiently move forward with our plans. Experience the inner prudent whispering of Saturn as a positive, confirming “measure twice, cut once” type of counsel, rather than as a limiting, delaying one.
Moon in Taurus –March 26 to 29
The Moon is now in Taurus, its exalted position. This can be a good time to make decisions for both your short and long-term plans. Creativity, imagination, and inspiration are heightened, enhancing your ability to conceptualize. As Ketu is conjunct the Moon, this places Rahu, always 180° from Ketu, in opposition to the Moon. This astrological “tag team” can challenge further our perceptivity, as both simultaneously have an eclipsing influence. Ketu behaves like Mars; we cannot get agitated which affects our calm, rational thinking. Rahu behaves like Saturn; we may become too strategic in our thinking, which can take away our intuition and spontaneity. Try then to use the best of these two energies. We can benefit from Ketu’s Mars-like push to achieve, as long as we stay calm. We can benefit from Rahu’s Saturn-like strategy to coordinate our thoughts, as long as we don’t double think ourselves into a corner of doubt and uncertainty.
Moon in Gemini – March 29 to 31
The Moon in Gemini indicates an animated mind filled with ideas. This placement shows excellent communication skills that are gainfully employed in our enthusiastic interaction with others. During this short transit, there are no aspects to the Moon. And though there are no positive ones to work with the Moon, its favorable placement in Gemini is in no real need of support. However, having no challenging aspects to the Moon provides for a clear runway; we are free in our mind to fly with all our concepts and ideas, free from mental doubts or other ponderous thoughts that, at other times, can impede the smooth flow of our thoughts. Keep in mind, however, that we need to keep our focus and priorities straight, as we may be feeling a bit too ambitious with too many thoughts running through our mind.
Moon in Cancer – March 31 to April 2
Being an emotional, water sign, those with the Moon in Cancer are sensitive, gentle, and kind. Don’t think, however, that these qualities result in any form of inactivity, suggested by the quiet, yin nature associated with this Moon placement. Rather, this is an active, creative mind that goes about materializing its plans quietly and ambitiously. Rahu, aspecting the Moon, can somewhat dampen our enthusiasm. For example, we may have last-minute doubts as to the feasibility of a plan that perhaps we have already launched. It would be a good idea, then, to stay the course, just making sure that we have dotted all the “I”s and crossed the “T”s regardless what we are doing at this time. Saturn, still in Libra, and now aspecting the Moon suggests that we can be successful in this regard. The wisdom and caution associated with this placement slows us down enough to be certain that no stone is left unturned. So go ahead with your plans, and don’t let anything dampen your spirits.
Moon in Leo – April 2 to 4
The Moon in Leo – being ruled by the effulgent brilliance of the Sun, the king of the planetary hierarchy – is a passionate and dignified sign of royalty. Those with this Moon are charming and magnetic. The creative ingenuity associated with this placement shows one who can move mountains to achieve their goals. It would seem to be a good idea, then, to go ahead with your plans during these two and a half days, as your thinking is charged with enthusiasm and vitality to achieve. Be attentive, however, as Mars – now retrograde – may dampen your passionate outlook to some extent. Don’t allow yourself to be dissuaded by any potentially discouraging thoughts or feelings. You can do some meditation, share your ideas with good friends and you will succeed.
Moon in Virgo - April 4 to 6
The Moon in Virgo indicates a sensitive mind, yet one that can also be critical and analytical. There is a practical and pragmatic approach to life; we like to do things methodically. During this short transit, however, we need to make sure that we are being thorough in our thinking, as Mercury, the planet of communication, is now debilitated in Pisces, and aspecting the Moon. Consequently, we have to watch that we don’t misrepresent ourselves when communicating with others. Fortunately, the Sun is in opposition to the Moon, resulting in a Full Moon, a time when our creativity and ideas can flourish. It is then the time to bring our ideas to fruition, however, calmly and peacefully, as Ketu is also aspecting the Moon at this time.
Moon in Libra - April 6 to 8
The Moon is now in Libra; we have the enthusiasm to do something fantastic. Now, though, we need to maintain the same high-spirited energy and excitement that we felt when we first imagined the idea or concept. If our plan holds water and is doable, we simply need to persevere from start to finish to make it a success.
Saturn, however, is conjunct the Moon, which can be a difficult yoga – yoga in this context being a planetary union. We need to maintain not only our determination to succeed, but also our faith and trust, as there can be some emotional misunderstanding within ourselves and with others that can test our resolve and conviction to move ahead.
Think of these next few days as providing the opportunity to do some soul-searching – an activity that all of us would be wise to perform from time to time. Besides, we never know what positive insights we may receive from a little introspection.

Consequently, through an analysis of your astrological chart, preventive measures can be suggested to help you achieve this end.

Significant Lunar Effects this Month - February 2012
Moon in Scorpio - February 14 to 16
The Moon, now in Scorpio, brings with it an intensity of mind, as well as somewhat fixed ideas and opinions. In our enthusiasm to pursue our ideals, we can at times be rather inflexible, preferring not to listen to what others have to say or suggest. As Rahu is in aspect to the Moon at this time, this combination may aggravate an already cautious and, in the extreme, suspicious and doubting mind.
Rahu or Ketu, these shadow planets, are always 180° apart. As a result, the Moon, when conjunct one, will simultaneously be in opposition to the other. In this case, Ketu is in opposition (180°) to the Moon. As Ketu behaves like Mars, the warrior planet, its action on the feeling and mental disposition of the mind can be disturbing, creating confusion and sometimes distress. Moreover, Mars itself is aspecting the Moon, reinforcing an already compulsive and over-reactive Moon in Scorpio.
Consequently, during this short transit, don’t start something risky, and try not to make a court case out of an issue that, at any other time, could be solved agreeably. Be conscious of how you are thinking and behaving so that you can avoid unnecessary arguments and conflict.
Moon in Sagittarius - February 16 to 18
The Moon now in Sagittarius elicits an explorative, outgoing and pioneering mental disposition. We may feel more optimistic than we have been feeling during the last two or three days and, as a result, are more inclined to actively engage in doing something constructive. At this time, Saturn is aspecting the Moon. The expression of this planet does not conform to the more free-wheeling nature of Moon, as Saturn’s influence can be somewhat restrictive, curbing the spontaneity of our expression. However, its exalted placement in Libra wisely pulls in the reins so that we don’t initiate any potentially ill-conceived plans of action. As Saturn relates to the elders in our family and society, it would also be wise to listen to advice given by those older than ourselves.
Jupiter, also aspecting the Moon, always cast a favorable influence. Therefore, in addition to the tempering, wise influence of Saturn, that can restrain an otherwise potentially overly enthusiastic and speculative Sagittarian Moon, we can also be dynamically guided to move ahead confidently with our plans as a result of its positive influence.
Moon in Capricorn - February 18 to 20
Those with the Moon in Capricorn tend to think carefully before taking action; they don’t take anything for granted, their nature being to scrutinize the fine print. They are not easily fooled, and it would take some serious deception to pull the wool over their eyes. This astute nature can play out well for them on an impersonal level, however, on a personal one, they cannot allow their somewhat reasoning, doubting, and critical reasoning faculties to overshadow their loving nature.
At this time, Ketu is aspecting the Moon, provoking us to react. For example, if others disagree with us, rather than discussing the situation peacefully, we may instead become agitated and defensive.
It would be wise, then, that during this transit we take the best of what the Moon in Capricorn has to offer, while simultaneously making an effort to avoid the agitating influence of Ketu. We can be practical, and employ our down to earth reasoning to inspire us to do something concrete, rather than functioning on impulse. Try and stay low, and focus on what you are doing. Keep in mind that you can always agree to disagree; just do it with a smile.
Moon in Aquarius – February 20 to 23
Those with the Moon in Aquarius tend to have humanitarian interests. As this Moon is associated with Saturn, we may appear aloof and at times even disinterested in personal relationships. This could not be farther from the truth, as this placement shows compassion; it is just that those with this placement tend to focus on the needs of the group rather than focusing their attention solely on an individual basis.
At this time, the Moon will transit over the Sun also in Aquarius for the next few days, resulting in a new Moon. This combination can be somewhat challenging, as planets sitting in close proximity to this “hot” planet are described as being “combust”, losing to some extent their inherent potential. Consequently, the mind and our emotions, indicated by the Moon, can be “inflamed”.
Mars also happens to be aspecting the Moon at this time. So it is necessary that we don’t behave impulsively, wanting to get things done too quickly. Remember, timing is everything. So take a step back and think carefully before taking action.
Moon in Pisces – February 23 to 25
The emotions and sentiments of those with the Moon in Pisces are heightened. Their feeling nature gives rise to a great deal of inspiration. During this transit, Venus, the planet of beauty, charm, and sensory appreciation is aspecting the Moon. Moreover, Venus is now in Pisces, its exalted and most favorable zodiac placement. During this short lunar transit, then, comforting, pleasurable activities as well as a desire to beautify your surroundings can be highlighted.
Creativity, luxury, and anything that pleases the senses: music, good food, and all that is entertaining may be sought after at this time. This is not a time to put your nose to the grindstone. Rather it is a time to lay back and enjoy yourself. Mars aspecting the Moon, however, may try to push you into being more active, which can be in conflict with the more laid back trend suggested by this transit. Watch that Rahu aspecting the Moon doesn’t skew your thinking, as your enthusiasm may lead you into having “too much of a good thing”. Do something creative, throw a party, go see a concert, or cook a great meal for your friends, and try to stay out of trouble.
Moon in Aries – February 25 to 28
Now that the Moon has moved into Aries, we can be somewhat impulsive and straightforward in both our thinking and in how we express ourselves. Our outlook can be somewhat black and white, and matter of fact. Consequently, we need to remain tactful and sensitive to the opinions of others, whether we agree with them or not.
An exalted Saturn is also aspecting the Moon at this time. And although the Moon and Saturn are not friendly towards each other, differing in attitude and behavior, this combination reflects the expression, “It is preferable to have a wise enemy, than a foolish friend”. In regards to other less intense lunar placements, the restrictive nature of Saturn would be more of an impediment to their spontaneity; one could feel a bit “smothered”. In this case, however, Saturn will control the impetuous and impatient Aries Moon that, like a race horse chomping at the bit, is raring to go. Rather than making quick decisions, then, we may be more likely to weigh matters first. Jupiter also aspecting the Moon will provide even greater assurance for our success, as we may be more inclined to consult those who can provide further sensible advice. Consequently, we are enabled to take a step back, and look before we leap.
Moon in Taurus – February 28 to March 1
The Moon in Taurus is exalted. This is its most favorable placement, indicating a broadminded, inspired, and creative mental outlook. We may feel less impetuous and impulsive now that the Moon has moved out of Aries. Rather, we are more inclined to seek advice, and are open to listen to others’ views. As we have a team spirit mentality, we tend to participate more with those in our home and work environment. This can be a time of great creativity and ingenuity.
Rahu and Ketu, however, are both aspecting the Moon – Rahu from Scorpio 180° away and Ketu conjunct to the Moon in Taurus. These placements indicate that we need to be on guard, as the eclipsing effect of these two shadow planets, whenever impacting the Moon, can distort our thinking. We may find ourselves looking deep within, cross-examining ourselves regarding certain directions we are taking. This internal dialogue can be helpful, as we are forced to determine exactly what are our convictions. For example, we may find ourselves in the company of those who may try to dissuade us from certain plans of action that up to now we have felt convinced to pursue. Faced with this kind of situation, it is necessary that we be clear of our intentions and, if this is the case, don’t let anybody interfere with the realization of your dreams.
Moon in Gemini – March 1 to 4
With the Moon in Gemini, the mind is often brimming over with ideas. During this transit, you may find yourself being more effervescent, communicative, and expressive. Although it is important to have enthusiasm and ideas, it is also necessary that we choose the ones that are viable, as we need to keep our feet on the ground, and not get caught up in a world of imagination. Keeping this caution in mind, try putting your focus and vision into tackling existing projects that need to be completed, as this is a good time to succeed with any type of creative activity.
Moon in Cancer – March 4 to 6
Both the Moon and the sign Cancer relate to female yin energy. As such, the motherly attributes of sensitivity and nurturance are strongly associated with this placement. As every sign placement has its strengths and weaknesses, those with a Cancer Moon can be vulnerable, as they are gentle yet often oversensitive. We can see, then, that a transit such as this can be stimulating; we look for beauty and can be motivated to initiate creative plans. As a result of the inherent yin nature of this placement, however, we can also be overly susceptible to outside influences. As Rahu is aspecting the Moon, these influences can be a bit disorienting, as our vision may be eclipsed. Moreover, as our emotional defenses may already be somewhat weakened, Rahu’s effects may be felt stronger; we can doubt our own wisdom and question our intuition.
Saturn aspecting the Moon at this time is a powerful influence, and even though its impact on the Moon is considered restrictive, its exalted placement in Libra provides wise insight whereby we are enabled to follow through with our plans with the least amount of doubt and questioning. As a consequence of Saturn’s caution, careful deliberation, and vigilance, our creative convictions can be confirmed and then acted upon. We just need to be patient.
Moon in Leo - March 6 to 8
Having moved out of the gentle, yin sign of Cancer, the Moon now moves into the dynamic, outgoing and magnanimous energy of the Sun, the ruling planet of Leo. We can feel mentally and emotionally charged to pursue our goals with clarity and confidence. Mars aspecting the Moon – though its energy can be somewhat aggravating in its overly assertive manner – is in astrological parlance, friends with the Sun. As a result, we can accomplish a great deal as long as we don’t become too eager and agitated if things don’t move as fast as we would like.
Jupiter now in aspect to the Moon, as always a favorable indication, rounds out the above, tempering the rambunctious nature of Mars with wisdom and foresightedness. Furthermore, the passion and creativity of the Moon is heightened as it is opposite the Sun in Aquarius, creating a full Moon. This is a time to move forward with our plans, as we are now being buoyed up with the support of the Sun, Moon, Jupiter, and Mars.
Moon in Virgo - March 8 to 10
The Moon in Virgo indicates a shift from passion to idealism, and from a fiery “all steam ahead” dynamism to a more thoughtful, rational, and somewhat withdrawn manner of thinking and feeling. We can be quite idealistic under the influence of this Moon, yet our idealism under the influence of Ketu, now aspecting the Moon, can become a liability, as we can have such high expectations, wanting quick results. Therefore, instead of actualizing an ideal, we become disappointed and agitated as a result. Ketu wants to move fast, yet the Moon in Virgo is more thoughtful, resulting in a conflict in attitude. To add to the situation, Mercury, now in its least favorable position in Pisces, can create difficulty in communicating whereby we can misrepresent ourselves and our intentions. During this transit, therefore, think before speaking, and make sure you dot all the “I’s” and cross all the “T’s” before making any important decisions.
Moon in Libra - March 10 to 12
The Moon is now in Libra, an emotional sign that indicates we can be easily affected by external influences that come our way. As Saturn is aspecting the Moon – both the Moon and Saturn being in air signs – we can feel a bit uncertain, confused, and unsteady. As such, the already somewhat unpredictable nature of this Moon placement suggests that we do not go out of our way to take any risks that could jeopardize our health.
Jupiter and Venus are both aspecting the Moon at this time. This can give us the desire and drive to pursue whatever long-term projects we may be thinking about. However, the complex mix of energies created as a result of these combinations suggests that we delay making any decisions that have any long-term consequences. It is a good time to meditate and to get our priorities straight.
Moon in Scorpio - March 12 to 14
The Moon, now in Scorpio, brings with it an intensity of mind, and somewhat fixed ideas and opinions. In our enthusiasm to pursue our ideals, we can, at times, be somewhat inflexible, preferring not to listen to what others have to say or suggest.
As Rahu is in aspect to the Moon at this time, it is important that we avoid others who may give us poor advice. Moreover, this aspect indicates that we can have somewhat poor judgment. Therefore, important decisions made under any Rahu or Ketu aspect to the Moon should be delayed if possible.
In addition, Mars is aspecting the Moon, which can be positive, as it mobilizes us into action. We need to be certain, however, that we do not rush into anything, and that we have made certain that we have all the facts and are clear and objective with regards to any course of action, especially as the aforementioned Rahu and Ketu influences are at work. Risks should not be taken during this transit and again, if possible, try to avoid any important decisions that can be put off, at least for the next few days.
Next month, we will look at the effects of the Moon’s position from March 12th to April 9th 2012.

Significant Lunar Effects this Month - January 2012

Moon in Virgo - January 13 to 15
The Moon in Virgo indicates intelligence, guided by a methodical and analytical mind. At this time we may be more prone to take our time and to mull things over before acting; we want to make sure that we don’t overlook any details. However, make sure that you are not taking too much time before making decisions as this Moon placement can also indicate an overly analytical, and cautious mindset that can negatively affect our decision-making.
Moreover, Ketu is now aspecting the Moon. We must guard against getting upset as this “shadow planet” may inflame an already critical nature. Rather than moving ahead with our plans, we may become over cautious and lacking trust, as the eclipsing effect of Ketu can somewhat skew our perception.
Trust your instincts, and “lay low” avoiding any confrontation with others, as the last thing you want to do is create any resentment, chastising others for their flaws. Remember, nobody is perfect - we’ll leave that distinction for our soul nature.
Moon in Libra - January 15 to 18
The Moon is now in Libra conjunct (sitting with) an exalted Saturn. Although this combination is usually not the best – Saturn can somewhat impede the imaginative, free flowing and spontaneous spirit attributed to the Moon – its placement in Libra, however, can actually be supportive of this Moon placement.
The scales, the symbol for this Moon’s zodiac sign, is indicative of the, at times, uncertain, vacillating, and unpredictable nature associated with this Moon position. One can have fluctuating emotions, and can be restless and scattered with all kinds of fantastic ideas and life themes. In contrast, Saturn’s nature is to strategically coordinate our activities, albeit somewhat restrictively - “taking away some of our fun”. Still, there is a greater chance of fulfilling some constructive goal through the implicit collaboration between the two.
Here again, Jupiter aspects the Moon, lightening up the mood created as a result of the Saturn-Moon relationship. Moreover, as Jupiter typifies the voice of conscience, acting as mediator and guardian, it can help alleviate any potential conflict between the comfort fun-seeking nature of a Libran Moon, and the wise, yet overly sober and austere nature associated with Saturn.
Moon in Scorpio - January 18 to 20
The words intense, passionate, strong, and independent describe the nature of this Moon’s placement. Drastic, and at times suspicious and cautious, also illustrate the thinking going on behind this lunar placement. In addition, we need to guard against holding on to opinions at all cost; rather we could consider others’ viewpoint, while stamping out any doubts we may harbor regarding the intentions of those around us.
At this time, however, we may be further challenged, as Rahu is sitting conjunct the Moon. This also implies that Ketu, (the polar opposite of Rahu) also aspects the Moon from its placement 180° away in Taurus. In short, this combination may further reinforce our strongly-held opinions - no less the desire to impose them on others.
During this transit, then, we need to stay calm, flexible, and at least be open to listening to others’ ideas, even though we may disagree with them. Here is a chance to be flexible and conciliatory. And, to quote the Bible, “Blessed are the peacemakers”.
Moon in Sagittarius - January 20 to 22
An adventurous and explorative mind describes this lunar placement. The possibilities are unlimited, and whatever is envisioned is ambitiously pursued. However, regardless our enthusiasm to achieve, often we are presented with challenges and difficulties that ultimately, and fortunately, serve to strengthen our resolve and determination. To this end, the Moon is now being aspected by two malefics: Saturn and Mars; and two benefics: Mercury and Jupiter.
Saturn can restrict the fiery, spearheading nature of a Sagittarian Moon governed by Jupiter, the pioneering and explorative planet. Saturn, however, being well placed in Libra provides the wisdom to keep our unbridled Moon in Sagittarius enthusiasm in check.
Mars aspect on the Moon can enliven the Moon’s enthusiasm, yet can be too forceful in its approach; we must guard against becoming agitated as a result of its imposing influence. Mercury, although a benefic planet, doesn’t always sit well with the Moon. As a consequence, we can misrepresent ourselves during this transit. We need to think carefully before we speak. Fortunately, Jupiter aspecting the Moon is, to a certain extent holding the reins, helping to guide through common sense, this complex combination of planetary influences.
Moon in Capricorn – January 22 to 24
This lunar placement can indicate some difficulties as Saturn, the ruling planet of Capricorn, can dampen the normally light hearted and exuberant nature of the Moon. In addition, over the next few days, the Sun in Capricorn will be conjunct the Moon – indicating a new, or dark Moon. We need to stay optimistic and buoyant, and less critical. Otherwise, we may fall into a somewhat isolated frame of mind; we can be unwilling to listen to what others have to say, perhaps even doubting their intentions. Moreover, Ketu is aspecting the Moon; we must guard against becoming agitated as a result of the potential Capricorn new moon effects.
As they say in carpentry, “Measure twice, cut once.” We can apply this to our thinking over the next few days. Therefore, “Think twice before expressing an opinion” – in this way we can stay more loving and caring, without having to backpedal due to speaking our mind out of turn.
Moon in Aquarius – January 24 to 26
The Moon, now in Aquarius, imparts a creative, serious, and visionary approach to our thinking. The imagination is sparked with plenty of ideas that we want to put into practice. However, the Moon in Aquarius can at times be also somewhat of a dreamer. Now that Venus is in aspect to the Moon, there can be a bit of a tug-of-war between the two in terms of contrasting desires. On one hand, Venus tends to look for comfort, whereas the mind filtered through an Aquarian Moon pursues loftier ideals.
For example, one characteristic of Venus is to take care one’s self, before the next door neighbor. In contrast, the mindset of a Moon in Aquarius will say “the entire world is my next door neighbor. Keeping this concept in mind, the next few days should be a breeze, giving you an opportunity to connect on a deeper level with those you love.
Moon in Pisces – January 26 to 29
The Moon is now in Pisces, a placement that indicates an intuitive mind gifted with goodness and graciousness. Being in a mutable sign, however, those with this placement need to be decisive and to stick with their plans. Over the next few days, it would be wise to choose your priorities and to take action. As Mars is now aspecting the Moon, this can become a reality, as the effect of Mars is to energize; we can become more assertive and dynamic. Watch that in your enthusiasm you don’t allow yourself to become impatient or intolerant, as Mars energy can also be reactive, especially if things are not going either fast enough or in the way we have anticipated. Additionally, Rahu aspecting the Moon can somewhat skew our intuitive faculties as we may over-strategize, and plan to the extent that “we can’t see the forest for the trees”. Use your common sense, choose your priorities, and move forward with them with a plan that feels right in your heart.
Moon in Aries – January 29 to 31
The Moon, now in Aries is sitting favorably with Jupiter – which is always a good sign. This combination promotes a gracious, ambitiously driven, and visionary mind; we encourage others with our own enthusiasm, and can demonstrate that dreams do come true.
Mars is simultaneously aspecting the Moon at this time – creating drive and vitality. The guiding influence of Jupiter, however, helps to tame this somewhat unruly energy, focusing it in such a way that we are peacefully active rather than agitatedly active.
This a good time, then to take advantage of the stamina provided by Mars, and to get things done without the potential impatience and intolerance associated with this energetic planet.
Moon in Taurus – January 31 to February 3
Once every month the Moon transits into Taurus. As this is the Moon’s best placement, all the beneficial qualities of the Moon – a positive outlook on life, heightened creative faculties, and intuition can be highlighted during this short transit. Simultaneously, however, Ketu is conjunct the Moon in Taurus. Although the nature of this shadow planet is to eclipse planets that are in close proximity, the inherent strength of this Moon placement is formidable, nullifying to a great extent Ketu’s testing influence. Consequently, rather than doubting our intentions or feeling uncertain – effects that Ketu conjunct the Moon can produce – we are more likely to experience its energy positively, challenging us to be objective, convinced, and certain in our thinking.
Moon in Gemini – February 3 to 5
Those with the Moon in Gemini are full of ideas. Although they can have a tendency to get caught up in their imagination, they also have the ingenuity of mind to actualize their concepts. Interestingly enough, there are no positive or negative aspects to the Moon during this lunar transit. The mind, our intelligence, and emotional nature associated with the Moon, although not supported by a benefic influence at this time is, likewise, not impeded or confused by any malefic influence.
The Moon is getting a holiday, and the green lights are on in that we can have greater clarity of thinking. We can be more spontaneous in our manner of speaking, writing, or with any other creative activity or mental discipline. As the Moon is in Gemini, however, it would not be a bad idea to bounce your ideas off others as a point of reference.
Moon in Cancer - February 5 to 7
Attributes of the Moon in Cancer include sensitivity, creativity, and a calm, caring, gentle nature. These characteristics, then, are more likely to be expressed as the Moon transits into this sign of the zodiac. Of course, as Saturn and Rahu, a shadow planet, are aspecting the Moon - a mix of effects is generated. For example, Saturn a malefic influence that restricts and delays, somewhat dampening the enthusiasm of the Moon’s more spontaneous nature, is fortunately now in the exalted position of Libra. In this placement we can experience predominantly the wisdom, rather than the harsh taskmaster nature of Saturn. Consequently, whatever artistic inclination we may have, whether it be in music, cooking, dance, or writing, Saturn’s practical, down to earth temperament will urge us to use our imagination creatively, yet admonishing us to be practical and not overly sentimental.
Rahu thrown into the mix, however, can be a bit more challenging, as its eclipsing effect is slightly inhibiting; we may have difficulty openly expressing our feelings. Between these two malefics we may feel that our poor Moon is being trampled by doubt, curbing our normal, spontaneous, creative expression.
Think of this short transit, then, as an opportunity to verify if our resolve and conviction to go ahead with our plans are on solid footing. Keep in mind, that what may seem as restrictive and obstructing may simply be nature’s way of forcing us to recognize what is valid and doable before we set out on a course of action.
Moon in Leo - February 7 to 10
The Moon in Leo is an expressive, outgoing, and benevolent lunar placement. Mars, another forceful dynamic energy, seen as the warrior planet, is now aspecting the Moon. Mars adds passion and intensity, and can revivify the emotions, yet it can also be unrelenting and, therefore, somewhat unsettling in its overwhelming enthusiasm and desire for action. Consequently, we have the choice to “go for the ride”, urged on by Mars, or we can resist – which can leave us feeling agitated.
In addition, Jupiter is in aspect to the Moon. The guiding influence of this benefic planet will temper Mars’ energy so that we can stay on track with our originally intended Lunarian goals. Consequently, the planets can meld in a more harmonious fusion of creativity and action.
Next month, we will look at the effects of the Moon’s position from February 13th to March 12th 2012.

Significant Lunar Effects this Month - December 2011

Moon in Cancer, December 13 to 15
The Moon is now in Cancer, a time to be thoughtful, caring, and sensitive – all characteristics attributed to this lunar placement. After Taurus, this is the next best placement of the Moon. The challenging aspects to it from Rahu, however, can give us a real run for our money; we can have some difficulty judging well. Our perceptive faculties, normally channeled through the medium of the Moon can be skewed, as Rahu tends to oppress and restrict the spontaneity of the Moon – an attribute that fuels the perceptive mechanism through which we are enabled to feel the pulse of our environment, both inner and outer.
Then, as we have no choice but to manage our feelings and mental outlook in the face of Rahu and Saturn’s gaze, at least Saturn is in Libra, its most favorable position. As a result of this placement Saturn, though restrictive and delaying in its approach, fortunately provides some encouragement; compelling us to set long term goals, rather than short term ones although somewhat at the cost of curbing the Moon’s creative spontaneity and initiative to move ahead with its plans. Consequently, it may not be the best time to make any important decisions during this short transit.
Moon in Leo, December 15 to 17
The Moon has now transited out of the sensitive, feeling sign of Cancer into the fiery, dramatic and outgoing sign of Leo. We may feel more assertive; our mind is ready for greater, decisive mental activity. In addition, Mars, also in Leo is conjunct (sitting with) the Moon; if we weren’t already primed for takeoff, then this admixture of Martian energy can really fuel our emotions, however, in ways that need to be channeled properly.
Although Mars adds greater alertness and enthusiasm, its somewhat aggressive nature “Let’s get things moving” attitude can produce more agitation than calm. Into the mix we find Neptune, the planet of illusion and mysticism that, on any different day, without the influence of Mars, would meld easily with the depth and feeling nature of Moon. Instead this combination, if anything, can create more confusion. Fortunately, Jupiter is at the helm; we see a light at the end of a potentially foggy tunnel, as the wise, guiding influence of Jupiter can help see us through the next few days.
Moon in Virgo, December 17 to 19
The Moon is now in Virgo aspected by our rash, shadow planet Ketu. Although this Moon placement is positive, indicating a sensitive, selective and analytical mind, Ketu’s influence can be to turn up the heat somewhat; we may make choices faster now, in contrast to this Moon’s normally more fastidious nature. This can be a good thing if we are in a situation that requires quicker decision-making. For example, if you have 20 gifts on your Christmas list, you just might be able to fill it in one day with this combination. The painstaking attention to detail of a wedding planner with the Moon in Virgo assures the “couple to be” that there will be no embarrassing oversights. In this respect, Ketu can make your shopping quicker, more efficient, and perhaps more enjoyable, especially for the person you are shopping with. Moreover, you just might make purchases that end up being “the perfect choices” for gifts your family and friends always wanted. Just remember that you may just be in the vortex of other voracious shoppers – so keep your cool, as Ketu can also be a bit agitating.
Moon in Libra, December 19 to 21
The Moon is now in Libra. During this short 2 ¼ day transit, Saturn will be aspecting the Moon. There can be a little tension here, as this Moon placement - associated with Venus the planet of love, beauty, comfort and pleasure – is being tempered by Saturn, a no nonsense, practical and stern influence. If there is one planet that will rain on your Venusian party, it’s Saturn. However, the good news is that Saturn may nicely balance out this Moon’s somewhat unpredictable extravagant nature. Saturn offers practical advice that helps guide our decisions. For example, you are Christmas shopping and everything (Moon in Libra) beautiful and expensive appeals to you. You want to buy the most expensive pair of Italian leather boots that have no lining yet are being purchased regardless the freezing Canadian winter. Saturn of course would simply suggest you buy snowmobile boots regardless they don’t match the evening dress and luxurious accessories you already purchased for next week’s gala event – but those boots sure will be warm. Obviously the happy medium between the idealism of a Moon in Libra, and the realism of Saturn will result in the purchase of elegant fleece lined boots that serve both form and function. So go ahead and make purchases based on this balanced concept – just make sure that you don’t get morose because Saturn has put the shopping reins on your freewheeling luxurious desires. In the end, you’ll buy more, pay less, and get more bang for your buck. Besides, you’ll be thankful when you receive your next Visa statement.
Moon in Scorpio, December 21 to 23
The Moon is now in Scorpio, its most difficult placement. That’s OK, as every planetary placement has both its advantages and drawbacks. On the positive side this Moon placement influences us to look at situations from all angles, as we can be somewhat suspicious. From this vantage point nobody can pull the wool over our eyes. However, if we are constantly in Defcon 3 wondering who is going to do what to who, especially if we think we are about to be victimized, we may stay in our ‘lizard,’ sympathetic brain – safe and under control, yet unable to let down our defenses. In spirit, we are meant to be free in our consciousness; ideally we recognize that we are all one. If this is the case, then who is this enemy we are so vigilantly being on guard for? Having pointed out one manifestation of this Moon placement, we can imagine how we may feel during this transit. Moreover, Mercury is aspecting the Moon that, simply providing expression for the Moon, may simply voice its somewhat skewed perception. We might consider not opening our mouths for the next few days. In addition, Rahu and Mars, both malefic influences, one being drastic in effect, the other aggressive, can exacerbate this Lunar placement and how we communicate with those around us. Consequently, during this short transit, you may feel this peripheral feeling of doubt, uncertainty, and disbelieving everything that you are picking up around you. Stay calm, don’t make any big decisions, and hold on until this transit is over.
Moon in Sagittarius, December 23 to 25
Those with Moon in Sagittarius, have an adventurous, honest, and ambitious way of thinking. This Moon placement arrives in timely manner to set the mood for Christmas day. However, as it is with life, there are a few minor glitches to deal with, as Pluto, Sun, Saturn and Jupiter are all aspecting the Moon at this time. Pluto’s influence, though similar to the aggressive nature of Mars is much more intense and unyielding. Sun energy, especially in a fire sign like Sagittarius, is hot and can be overwhelming. Consequently, the characteristically gentle, sensitive nature associated with the Moon can be overpowered. Jupiter, however, helps to guide us through what otherwise could be a tumultuous, frustrating and confusing few days. The benefic guiding influence of this giant planet by favorably reining in Saturn’s characteristically severe nature, emphasizing instead its wise, practical nature, enables us to sail through this period with greater ease. Merry Christmas to all!
Moon in Capricorn, December 25 to 28
As Christmas day winds down, all the colorfully wrapped presents have long been opened, and the dishes have all been put away, we glide from a day of vibrancy, enthusiasm and excitement ruled by the Moon in Sagittarius, towards a more thoughtful and introspective late night mood governed by the Moon in Capricorn. This is a time to relax, to be buoyed up with the reassurance that everything comes to those who wait. Of course this has nothing to do with mulling over a gift you didn’t receive, rather it can be a time of foresight where we can contemplate ideas and plans for the future.
This magical time serves as a kind of milestone, where we can pause for a moment and visualize what lies ahead, freed temporarily from the daily pressures of life. It would be regrettable, however, if this time of good cheer is tarnished by feelings that, for example, you don’t have enough, creating frustration and despondency, this, as a result of Venus aspecting the Moon during this short transit.
If this time acts as a benchmark whereby you can assess your situation in life, then good. Regardless your circumstances, you have a mind that can dream the impossible into reality. So begin gearing up for the New Year with enthusiasm and renewed sense of purpose.
Moon in Aquarius, December 28 to December 30
As we prepare to close the year, we are visited by the Moon in Aquarius. While still in the glow of the festive season, we are reminded of the needs of those less fortunate than ourselves – courtesy of the humanitarian nature of this Moon placement. Moreover, this sentiment may be accentuated, as Neptune, the planet of mysticism and Divine love is aspecting the Moon; additionally confirming the feeling to do something useful for the world.
As Mars is also aspecting the Moon, we need to stay calm and to embrace peace, something we would be wise to embrace all year round, and especially now during the Holiday Season, the time of peace and brotherly love.
Moon in Pisces, December 30 to January 2
What could be more appropriate than ending the year with the Moon in Pisces - the last sign of the zodiac. We bring on the New Year with a renewed sense of hope and inspiration backed by an optimistic and humanitarian frame of mind. Keep in mind that Pisces, being a mutable sign can be somewhat indecisive. Therefore, if this Moon placement is at all reflective of the months ahead, make sure that this year, you try even harder to maintain your New Year’s resolutions. In one respect having Mars aspect the moon at this time pushes us to make decisions, as this Moon placement does suggest a somewhat dreamy nature prone to vacillation. And although the forceful, dynamic energy of Mars urges us to persist for what we believe in, we need to guard against being intolerant if things don’t move as fast as we would like.
Rahu aspecting the Moon provokes us to make decisions in a way that we may become impatient. Therefore, rather than becoming angry or impatient, take the time until you genuinely feel inspired. Therefore, though it is a good time to make common sense New Year’s resolutions, rushing into making important decisions wouldn’t be wise at this time.
Moon in Aries, January 2 to 4
Moon is now in Aries. During this transit, Jupiter is aspecting the Moon. As a result, the influence of Jupiter is to guide us wisely rather than impulsively – a challenging characteristic of Mars, the planet ruling this Aries Moon. As a result of this 2 ¼ day lunar transit, we now have a better chance of achieving whatever we have planned. However, Saturn is also aspecting the Moon at this time. We can experience the influence of Saturn by listening to the wise insights associated with it - advice that can appear to be restrictive, yet ultimately is protecting us from making impulsive decisions. Alternately we can decline to take heed of that little voice in the back of our heads (that would be Saturn talking to us) and instead forge ahead with our own subjective decision making strategies, yet ones that can be based on doubts, questioning, and an over cautious attitude. And although Saturn’s influence whenever it is aspecting the Moon seems to put a damper on our plans, it does so with good reason. So try and go with the flow for the next couple of days without letting Saturn get you down. Rather try to go beyond your immediate feelings and see that there might be something more that Saturn is trying to tell you.
Moon in Taurus, January 4 to 7
The Moon is now in Taurus, its best possible placement indicating positive sentiments, creativity, devotion and determination. If this Moon were sitting alone without being the object of difficult planetary aspects, such as those coming from Saturn, Mars, Rahu and Ketu, it would bring out the best of this lunar placement. Ah….. but life is constantly challenging us to become stronger, and more evolved consciously. We can still, then, benefit immensely from the positive influence of such a Moon; we just need to hold our emotional grounds. We need to remain calm and non-reactive in challenging situations, those provoked as a result of the “malefic” planetary influences mentioned above.
During this short transit, Ketu is aspecting the Moon. So as to benefit from this Moon placement, we need to trust our inner convictions and judgment, as Ketu is simply pushing us to see if we are really being clear, objective, and can “stay in our skin”. Remember, it’s only a test - albeit at times an unpleasant one. So stay calm and patient – allow the testing nature of Ketu to strengthen your resolve rather than letting it create unnecessary anxiety and intolerance.
Moon in Gemini, January 7 to 9
The Moon is now transiting Gemini, a positive placement indicating creativity, and a mind filled with many innovative, and resourceful ideas. During this transit, there is a full menu of aspecting planets including the Sun, Mercury and Pluto. The influence of Sun and Mercury sitting together in Sagittarius is already a good indication as this combination shows an earnest desire to get things moving – to materialize our goals. Their opposition, 180 degrees away from Gemini - indicating a Full Moon, indicates an enhancement of the already creative potential of this lunar placement, as well as a profusion of new ideas. This can be a time of great intuition, however, as the visualization process of the mind is so energized, we must guard against having an accident as we are so preoccupied in our mind. Moreover, Pluto’s aspect on the Moon intensifies the entire experience. Therefore, keep in mind those hazardous medical warnings such as, “Do not drive or operate dangerous machinery”…..you get the idea, so be careful and enjoy your ideas in a comfortable, safe place.
Next month, we will look at the effects of the Moon’s position from January 9th to February 13th 2012.
