Mars: Dealing with Stress

Mythologically, Mars is considered to be the planet of war and destruction. However, the purpose of Mars the warrior is to protect the weak, provide stability, and maintain peace. Ideally, the presence alone of the warrior accomplishes this, and force is used only as a last resort. The stronger the warrior, the less force is required. Mars, then, can be our greatest ally when its energy is channeled properly.

In the hand, the mounts of Mars positive (+) and Mars negative (-), which together make up the Mars galaxy, reflect the degree of energy and stamina operating in our lives. Mars positive, which represents mental strength, indicates our resolution to be steadfast, calm and productive. Mars negative, which represents physical strength, reflects our ability to implement these resolutions in our everyday living.

The Mars galaxy relates to our ability to absorb and diffuse anger and stress. However, when we are unable to control our response to provocation—real or imagined—we act inappropriately. We may shout, cry, argue or become aggressive, making the situation worse, sometimes to the point of chaos.
